The announcer bowed once more and let go.
“We are yours, Your Highness.”
‘Now’s the time to shine.’ Marianne closed her eyes, just for an instant, before opening it to sparkle of enthusiasm shining in her eyes.
“Our good citizen of Hyrule.” She began, her hands situated perfectly in front of her, ”People Of Eldin, Faron, Lanayru, and Ordona, on behalf of Hyrule Royal Family I thank you for your attendance tonight.”
Uu…uh not the striking, attention grabbing opening she’d like. But it would do. It would do.
“We now stand in the presence of two honorable knights. So brave. So bold. So eager to wager their honor in the time-honored tradition of a Joust. –‘Are they eager? Um, Maybe?’ – "Knights! I wish you both the best in your upcoming trial. Please show us not what we stand to lose in a fight. But rather, the neverending glory to be gained in a battle of honor. May the Goddesses blessings be with you! And with us also!”
Thunderous applause as the crowd cheered on. An average speech. So-so. But it would do. It would do.
Marianne was eager to step down from the podium. But one of the crowd shouted, “Favor from the Lady!” and another followed, and soon the whole crowd chanted “Favor from the Lady! Favor from the Lady!”
She looked back at the announcer, who raised his shoulders resignedly.
‘Well then.’
But Marianne kept her smile. She unclasped her red hood from her cloak and –although painful to part with- elegantly passed it to the announcer’s open arms.
“There we have it!” The announcer shouted. And the crowd exploded. “So much at stake tonight, Ladies and Gentlemen! So much! Now, along with everlasting adulation, one of these brave knights stand to gain a charm of Princess Marianne herself! Fight on! Fight on!”
Marianne stood for a while in the podium in case the combatants would give customary salute for her. She was a little flustered, but happy. Happy she didn’t mess up. Once it all settled Marianne stepped lightly from the podium and strolled to where she was standing before, but now naturally took the front row as people gave her way after all. From here, she could get the best view of the joust! But- she looked around, and noticed something was missing.
Has she lost her escort?
