Grey is, to those who know them well, a deep and interesting person, with many complex interests... but for those who don't, well, they act like a walking piece of cardboard with a face. Sure, the stoic, unblinking front is there to hide from the frankly terrifying experience of forming new bonds (they don't really like new people), and there's a reason for it, and all, et cetera, et cetera... but until you can get past it, they are the most boring person in Hyrule. (But hey, give them a break. People are tiring.)[break]
For those that do know them well, Grey's tendency to wake obscenely early in the morning to practice can grate on the nerves a bit, but it just shows their dedication. To them, the lance is everything. They will talk about that -- even to strangers -- for as long as they can. When they catch on an idea like they did on lance fighting, they never let it go. Justice is important to them due to... reasons. Oh, and as one might be able to see by their usual dress, they aren't above a bit of theatrics just for the heck of it, because hey, you can't live forever.

Past the slightly feminine figure, Grey, in all of their imposing six feet of height, is fairly androgynous. They tend to frown slightly all the time, although they will assure you that's just how their face looks.[break]
They wear ridiculously long and unnecessary coats all the time, regardless of the weather (they have heavier ones for winter and lighter ones for summer); their favorite colors are blue and pink, and the coats tend to include both. The only time you'll catch Grey without their signature coats is in the middle of a fight -- after all, they can't risk tripping over the hem.

Growing up as the child of two adventurers was not easy on Grey. They were, from about four years on, carted around as their parents roamed Hyrule and beyond. Were their parents loving? Yes. Smart? Eh, not so much. Frequently, the couple would abandon their child under a tree or in a nearby village and come back hours or even days later, covered in blood, with no explanation. So, out of necessity, the child's life revolved around combat. They could sharpen swords from about age seven, but they didn't learn to read until age thirteen, and they still have trouble with it. (Math, luckily, came much more easily.) Their parents eventually gave up on coming back... or died. Either way, Grey was fed up enough by their antics and struck out on their own.[break]

(This meant they got to spend battles on horseback instead of on the ground in the other combatant's face.) From thirteen (when they received Barrel) on, they've been training like mad to become the very best at lancework.
