[attr="class","header"]the species of hyrule
Below are the races that can be created for a character. While apps will require an approval process, to which you simply throw your app in the Notification Thread once it's ready to be reviewed, it may take a bit of extra time for those in the "Others" section while the race you choose is deliberated, while the 6 default races will always pass go on that front. Each race has its own strengths and weaknesses, so choose carefully!
The Hylians have taken many different forms and names over the generations. In some generations, they even have been referred to as "Humans". But the most commonly known version of the race is the pointy-eared Hylians. They are known for their diverse set of shapes, sizes and colors, and while they aren't known for any race-specific skill-sets or abilities, the Hylians jack-of-all-trades capabilities keep them on par with the other known races. They are some of the most commonly seen people in the land of Hyrule, able to adapt and overcome any environment. You will find Hylians living just about everywhere in Hyrule, from the peaceful towns, to the scorching deserts, to the coldest of tundras.
What if I told you that living up in the mountains were rock people? Big, hulking rock people who ate rocks? Well, they exist. They're called Gorons, and they are a proud race whose tribes generally frequent Death Mountain. They are tough as rocks, physically and mentally, and tales of their unbreakable spirit are sung far and wide, just as much as their love of rocks, battle, and sumo wrestling. But what do you expect from a tribe that generally makes its home on Death Mountain? Of course, the Gorons are very much capable of being merchants, blacksmiths and most other occupations. Not to mention, have their signature ability of being able to curl into a ball and roll around at high speeds. Unfortunately, while they are almighty tanks who can withstand godly amounts of heat and cannot drown in water, they are unable to swim and will sink like a stone if submerged. The Gorons also seem to be unable to handle harsh winter temperatures, so make sure you prepare adequately if you're planning a trip to Snowpeak! For those outside of their race that earn the tribe's respect as warriors, they may call their "Sworn Brother", a respected friend of the Goron tribe.
A plant-like race that originated from a land far away. Their skin seemingly made of wood, and coming in many different shapes and sizes, the Deku people are very good at adapting to their environment. Of course, unless that environment involves fire. Fire is bad. The Deku tribe is able to shoot a variety of things from their snouts, from Deku Seeds to even bubbles. While they are rare in these parts (Although rumor says that they can be grown with special seeds), a Deku can also use a Deku Flower in order to shoot themselves high in the sky. They are also able to sharpen their bodies and spin, using their bodies as weapons. Unfortunately, not all Deku are sociable. Stories are told of Deku who became wild, and hide in patches of fauna in order to attack travelers with no reason given. While the Deku tribe does not have a place to call home officially, and tend to travel around Hyrule, commonly being merchants, but also taking other varieties of occupations - nor do they have a community or hierarchy of their own - nothing is stopping the Deku from forming together and making one of their own. Rumors speak of a swamp area in the Lanayru region that would suit the needs of the Deku, but nobody has been able to confirm it's existence...
The aquatic Zora people generally reside in Zora's Domain, although nothing stops them from living in or travelling elsewhere. Many of them serve the Zora Royal Family, and take pride in being able to protect and serve in their name as they watch over them. Their swimming ability is unmatched by any other race, and their ability to do so is so keen that they can even swim up streams or even up waterfalls at the height of their skill. Zora are more fragile then some other races, and do not take well to fire, but the Zora people are still able to fight quite well if trained correctly. Their speed and finesse are nothing to sneeze at.
Once a nearly extinct, all-women race, the darker-skinned desert dwellers known as the Gerudo have seen a massive surge in their population in the last few centuries. With their cycle of one male every century being broken, both male and female Gerudo walk Hyrule in the present age. Trained from a young age in the art of fighting and taught to survive in the Gerudo Desert where they tend to make their home, the Gerudo are tough as nails and can survive in the harshest of conditions. Of course, the Gerudo that reside in Hyrule do not have a community of their own, or a hierarchy, and tend to act on their own, whether surviving in small camps or settlements scattered across the Gerudo Desert, or travelling to greener pastures in Hyrule to pursue a trade. Granted, should the Gerudo band together and form a cohesive unit, a hierarchy and more unified civilization could be formed... The Gerudo Desert is certainly rife with room for buildings and settlements, after all.
In a world where the Sheikah tribe never went extinct, what would happen? Well, in this world, while the Sheikah are not heavy in number, they still tend to find a home in the Hidden Village, where they are generally born, and trained - with the goal of protecting the Royal Family Of Hyrule. Their training is rigorous, but they are agile, cunning and very competent fighters who are very skilled at fighting from the shadows. Some prefer to travel, or to live amongst the Hylians while in guise as one of their number. One may be able to tell the Sheikah by their eyes, which are always colored a blood red.
In this world, the Zora never evolved into the Rito, and instead continued on their path. Yet, through a race that originated from the Sky Province, the Rito have evolved into humanoid beings with bird-like beaks and wings for arms. Their skills in the air are unrivaled, though if grounded, their combat abilities suffer in comparison to other races. They generally make their homes in Rito Village, though some have gone down to the surface to live. They are able to last well in colder environments, but they have trouble in hotter ones and will collapse quicker in a volcano or a desert.
After disappearing from Hyrule for some time, the Kokiri have begun to re-emerge. The Kokiri permanently remain children, generally hitting the end of their physical growth just before they would become teenagers. Thus, they do not have the physical strength and endurance that would come with the body of an adult. Instead, their diminutive size grants them incredible speed, and they are one of the fastest races on the site. This lends well to a Kokiri who wishes to use daggers or archery, though their melee attacks obviously suffer in strength. With their lack of strength being offset by their incredible speed, the Kokiri make excellent rogues. The Kokiri are assigned a fairy early in life, who guides them, educates them and serves as a companion that is always at their side. This fairy can be NPC'd by the writer.
Descendants of the Interlopers who after failing to conquer the Sacred Realm were then banished to the Twilight Realm by the Sages. They have evolved into beings with blueish grey and black skin, red eyes, and green markings on their bodies. They can see quite well in the dark, but are weakened when exposed to light. Extreme light can cause them severe pain, leading many to wear hoods after escaping to the Light World from King Raalk's tyranny. They can enter the Twilight Realm without assuming a Beast Form.
Are you wanting to play a species not listed here? Perhaps you're a friendly Moblin, or even a race we have not even heard of yet? Those apped with that in mind are listed as "Other", and members will need to consult the staff team before apping a race not covered above. If enough people actively play said race for a long period of time, we may even add them to the official list of Playable Races and make them open to be apped without consultation.
