The carriage climbed onto the royal driveway, lined with armored guards carrying lances, shields, and spears bearing the symbol of the royal family. As it was parked, an older man with a well-groomed mustache in the attire of a royal servant awaited them. Ursula’s manservant hopped off of the coachman’s step and opened the carriage door, prompting the woman herself to rise from her seat and exit the vehicle. The maid would follow soon after Vladimir and Selene.
“Lady Ursula von Brandt,” the royal servant greeted, his eyes moved to the two, “... And guests, we have been expecting you.”
“Mm,” nodded Ursula.
“The princess is reaching the end of her meeting in her office.”
“And the Baron?”
“The lobby, milady. Would you like to...”
“You have shown me the way countless times before. Sir Lawrence, It is not in my place to ask but could you...”
She whispered words inaudible to the two, and the royal servant’s face showed an inkling of amusement. “Hm-hm!” he chuckled, then nodded his head once, “Very clever, milady. I will comply with your hubris. Allow me to accompany you for a little while before I do as you ask.”
“Do as you like.”
The little party ascended the steps to the castle.
“The baron was adamant for an audience with King Leon,” said Lawrence, “When it was suggested that he see to the princess, he wouldn’t budge. Even now, he waits for audience for the king... in bandages!”
“... Bandages?” Ursula’s inner brow furrowed.
“Yes, around the crown of his head, left arm, and right leg. Forgive the word picture, but-ho-ho-ho, he walks upon crutches as if he is a woman in labor.”
The noble lady scoffed, “Fascinating. The baron is a hyperbole in of himself.”
They eventually reached the main courtyard of the castle and entered into the lobby. There, they could see seated upon the lavish waiting couches, the back of the head of a rotund fellow with wrappings upon his head. His uncovered leg compensated furiously, and his beady eyes fixated on the floor as if trying to bore a hole into it.
“Tenacious fool,” Ursula muttered, "It has been three hours since I last we saw him."
"If he
is granted audience to the king, it may not go so well, however," said Lawrence, he gave a simple bow to the group, "I shall take my leave from here. I wish you two luck in your case." He said thus to Vladimir and Selene, then left them to speak to the baron. However, he would not speak until he was directly in front of him, and so brought full attention upon himself.
With that, Ursula, with the two in tow, moved past them and into the majestic white halls of the castle, decorated with the banners of the . She took them deep into the castle, up through an arched staircase and into the majestic halls of the throne room. From here, individuals of higher class, researchers of the Royal Family, and various nobles populated the halls, and while some took a few rueful glances at the professor and her guests, they paid little mind to them. They took a left into a wide hall with guards at the end, as well as the fellow who would announce their entrance into the hall.
Ursula brought her visitors to the side of the wall, where they would wait for the previous party to leave the room. Her gaze finally wandered to the two to see how they were managing within the royal abode.
