Nights always came earlier than one might think this late in the season. They crept up on you, then overtook you like a sack thrown over your head. The woman shivered and drew her cloak closer around her shoulders as her lantern clinked and guttered in the knifing breeze. She flicked the reins to keep the plodding cart ponies at a fast walk. Sages have mercy, it gets dark by eight now? I thought I had another half hour. Tally grumbled wordlessly and squinted, trying to make out the walls of Castle Town against the darkening sky. Not good. The cart bumped its way over a rock and rattled loudly. She muttered an oath under her breath and checked over her shoulder...[break][break]
And inevitably, there they were: a pair of Bulblins on a Bullbo. The monsters screeched and kicked their mount towards the road. "Sages and swords!" Tally swore, louder now that she'd been discovered. She clicked the ponies up to the fastest trot the cart could safely handle, abandoning caution for speed, and slid her mace from beneath the bench. The monsters approached the cart, one loading a bow, and she looped her reins around the bar, preparing for a fight...[break][break]
But not before noticing a small stand of trees off the roadside. She yanked the reins to one side to drive the ponies off the road, aiming for it as a way to provide cover... and the leaves exploded with noise as a small swarm of Keese took offense to her presence. "Hylia's tits! Come ON!" She growled a string of more offensive curses under her breath and, swiping one-handed at the Keese, drew the wagon to a stop in time to duck one of the blins' arrows. She jumped down in front of the ponies, murmuring and trying to quiet them as the Keese swarmed their heads. "Easy, kids. Easy, easy. Go easy..." She managed to detach one of the ponies before the Bulblins fell upon her in earnest, and she was forced to drop the reins as one swiped at her from the back of its mount. "Go away!"
