An Open Thread with Pegoro

Eldin Province, Outside of Kakariko Village

Fall was a pretty season, and Orange and red was a nice color. Even if it got windy and the air grew colder, it wasn't unbearable to the rock people. They say it's gotten dangerous outside of the towns and cities with the influx of monster numbers, but with the way she lived, she didn't quite feel that as heavily.

A rather large Goron in a green tunic sat on a raised cliff in the field, kicking up her legs and chewing on a piece of rock while taking in the pleasant scenery. A big pot was nestled in a big arm, filled to the brim with scrumptious rocks. Handful by handful, the rocks were carelessly stuffed into a powerful jaw that quickly broke the pebble pops into dust.

"Mmmm..."

Yes. This is bliss.

Breaktime in the middle of a hard day's work was the best, but not if it is interrupted by anything. Something doggedly lurked in the tall grass nearby, hidden from the sight of the inattentive Goron.

Autumn was a fun season for Vladimir... fun in his own words. The winds picked up and traveled more, making him feel more grounded within the air, but the biting chill did still mess with his sinuses. So much so that the dry air eventually outright gave him a nosebleed.

And how did they handle nosebleeds in Ikana? First stop the bleed, secondly, find a source of moisture. Blood in the valley often meant they drew unwanted attention, so even slight things like a nosebleed on particularly dry days where an unlucky Sheikah broke out with one were taken seriously.

Which is why the mayor offered that Vladimir go check out the hot springs as he sat in the mayor's house, pressing a rag to his nose to squeeze it while he went over papers and finished sorting them. The moisture in the air there should be enough to help him with his dry nose and... well.

Vlad hated the rare occasions he did get one so he went... or so he thought he was going to go. He was dressed easily in his typical wardrobe as if he should be in the graveyard working. All black. Pitch black longsleeve shirt, pants, cloak, cowl and boots as he moved about the cliff sides of Kakariko he ... forgot entirely to go to the hot springs.

Instead, he found himself flying easily over gaps and along narrow walls. Ledge to ledge with him until he saw something... strange in the tall grass in the distance. It was enough to grab his attention, so gathering his breath, huffing very slightly, he moved through the grass and looked about until he realized... was that a goron?

Yup that was a goron munching rocks. "Oh. Uh... sorry?" He awkwardly apologized immediately, still catching his breath, albeit easier with the wind how it was, but somehow also harder with how his reddened nose was clotted closed.

“Hm?”

The Goron’s head turned in the direction of the stranger and stared at the (relatively) small man with her mouth open and rock in hand ready to toss in. A small hint of embarrassment appeared on her freckled cheeks as she swallowed what was in her mouth, and then wiped her lips with her hair.

“Uh-huh-huh,” she chuckled deeply with a small bounce of her shoulders, “It’s okay. Peggy is not offended by stranger.” The Goron had a slight accent and her words were slow, yet soft and kindly to the ear. She put her hand on her chin, “Or… not so stranger? Peggy has seen you around.” Nonetheless, she shrugged her shoulders, “Nice to meet you. I am Pegoro. Or Peggy. Gorls in hot springs call me Peggy, but everyone can call Pegoro Peggy, too.”

Behind the ruffled tuft of bangs, her eyes sized him up a bit, then leaned down slightly.

Oh. There. If it wasn’t clear before, it certainly was now.

“Hmm... little man is bleeding in nose,” she remarked as she set her kettle of rocks aside and stood at her full height, “Is little man fine? Did he get in fight with something?”

Vladimir took a moment and swallowed the dry air, nodding his head at her saying it's ok. He took a deeper breath to help steady his breathing from the exertion. "Oh, same. I think." He'd at least heard, not sure if he ever really saw considering he didn't leave the graveyard too often most times, especially now that he was permitted to return to work. "Vladimir. People use Vlad, outside of work at the graveyard."

He had... learned, to not take offense to Goron calling people little, so he just sighed a bit and shook his head. "No. Just... damned dry air." He admitted, though not entirely too shamefully. If Vlad allowed himself to be struck by someone in a fight, well then his training in agility would make for him to be much more ashamed. "Should be used to it but... ya know." Sometimes they just happen anyways.

Nosebleeds, that was. He was also probably on a medicine that made him a bit more susceptible but he would be fine. He looked up at Peggy, thankful he couldn't see her eyes entirely, it made it much easier to speak to her but at the same time... still preferred not to look at the eye region, and instead, cast his eyes down some. "I didn't disturb you too much, did I?"

"Mm, Vlad,” Pegoro nodded, “Ok, easy to remember.”

Dry air? The thought of it made her rub the bottom of her nose. That didn’t sound any fun for anyone...

Then again, wasn’t Death Mountain always dry with the volcano being what it is? Well, except for the hot springs. The steam always had a nice effect on the insides of the ol’ schnoz. Made it all nice and humid...

The thought of a steam bath caused Pegoro to ponder in the bliss for a good ten seconds, that is, until she remembered she was having a conversation with someone.

“Huh? Disturb me? No,” she replied with a shake of her head, “Peggy was just enjoying afternoon snack before she went back to work again.” She turned and picked up the cauldron of palm-sized rocks (to a Hylian) to show to Vladimir. “Rock pops. Delicious to Gorons like me. Peggy will not offer them to Vlad, sadly. These are for Peggy, because Peggy is selfish and will eat all of them.”

She covered the pot with a concave lid and stuck it on her head.

“Dry nose is not fun. Peggy knows. Solution for dry nose is steam. Steam is good therapy for Vlad’s dry nose. Boil hot water with kettle and let steam fill room—oh.” She knocked the temple of her head, “Peggy is silly. Steam room at home? Bad idea. It makes mold. Mold bad for health and smells worse than old Goron's toe fungus.” She shivered and made a gagging noise. "There is steam room in hot springs, though. Nice and clean, no bad mold." She nodded emphatically, "Mm. Nothing beats good steam bath."

Vlad raised his eyebrow at the rock pop comment and shook his head. "Don't think I could stomach them anyways." He ate alot, when he remembered too, but he was still underweight and... well eating Goron food would probably just make him feel weighed down. heh. Weighed down. Like a paper weight-

He looked up to peggy though, a look of shock written across his face at the mention of the hot springs. "I totally forgot the Mayor told me to go there." He said through a breath, ruffling the strange hair under his cowl. Perhaps if she listened very closely she could hear a soft 'dammit'.

"You know quite a bit about steaming there, Peggy." They had one back home and honestly, he could probably make one himself if he found the right volcanic outcropping but that was so much effort and alot of searching. The thing he wasn't looking forward to though was removing his bandanges, baring his body to others.

Pegoro shrugged her shoulders, “Trial and error. Gorons learn best when making lots of mistakes. We have a saying: ‘whatever doesn’t melt you makes you wiser. Huh-huh.” She tapped her noggin and nodded her head, “Sometimes Peggy knows, sometimes she don’t. It doesn’t matter. Result is always best answer.”

That being said, she looked back toward the village and pointed to it. “Mm. Oh. Mayor told me of guest that needed their own space, so, Peggy prepared a private room before she went to break.” She raised both her fists, clearly covered in dust, “By prepare, Peggy punch into rock wall and carve out bath with bare hands. Hopefully special guest comes in today. Mm.” Another nod. “Maybe Vlad can come by spa sometime. Peggy likes to see her friends visit while she is at work.”

Whatever his therapist thought was going on with his head, it really was really good at making him forget things, and a part of him felt kind of bad about forgetting. Especially if he happened to be that visitor that needed his own space. Vlad wouldn't take his long sleeve shirt or bandages off if there was a risk of anyone he didn't trust seeing him.[break][break]

"Whatever doesn't melt you makes you wiser." Vlad repeated, ducking his head some to hide a smirk. Goron certainly had some interesting sayings, that much was for sure. Part of him idly wondered if the Goron that lived in Termina had something similar but more along the lines of freezing. "Friends?" He finally allowed the small grin to show. Eyebrows nit together with a confused half smile on his face.[break][break]

Do goron also just befriend anybody? "I'll have to drop by though after talking to the mayor. Or else he'll probably be shouting at me by dusk about how I'm a rascal."
