"For my Kingdom...
She met Marianne? Well, that had to have been interesting. Her expression didn't indicate she had a glowing impression of her. He was curious as to what exactly had happened. His next question was met with an interesting answer, though. But one thing he wasn't going to tolerate was her putting herself down as someone who couldn't do anything with what was in front of her. She acted as though she were unable to grow into a role. Unable to learn, unable to be anything compared to Leon and Marianne. It made his blood boil, but he kept his calm as he took a few more bites. He wiped his hands on the nearby napkin though, before he reached over to slowly take Selene's hands in his. "Selene, look at me" he spoke softly as as he looked her in the eyes. "I think you're selling short your capabilities. I have always… ALWAYS… Known that you were special. Should you let that get to your head, make you forget where you came from? No, absolutely not, and I’ll explain why to you in a second. But in all of our years together…” He gently squeezed her hands to reassure her, giving a gentle smile in turn. “You’ve shown me that you can do anything. Is this a surprise? Yes it is. Being told you’re royalty is overwhelming in of itself but I don’t want you to stress about it, nor should you think that just because this is new to you, that you're just some stranger, or someone who can't have some sort of role. Because I know that you… Are going to do just fine. You always have. Who went from knowing next to nothing about fighting, to rising to the challenge of the gods and saving that town from monsters, huh? That was you, Selene. That. Was. You. You’ve got this. And you want to know why? You, my dear... Have something that Leon and Marianne don't. And not just them, do you know what all those stuffy nobles holed up in their fancy castle and fancy noble towers with a lifetime of being treated hand and foot, don't have?" He pointed to her chest with a free finger. Or maybe he meant her heart? He was holding her hands so it was hard to tell for sure. "You. Your upbringing. The way of life that you've lived. Your experiences, your struggles, YOU!... Know how we think. How you and I right now, think! They don't. How can they? They haven't lived as we do. They haven't experienced as we do. They only know a life of ruling over us, considering us people who serve them. You have a perspective that can't be taught by a royal tutor, can't be gift-wrapped by a foreign emissary, can't be bought with all the rupees in the world. You have the common touch and in my view, that's important. So long as you never lose it, you will always be an asset in the courtroom. So I think you'll do just fine. And I think you have the potential to do a lot of good. That very well could be your role, and I think deep down... Leon knows that. And if he has any sense at all, he'll want to ensure that you're able to do some good. Formal training, learning, it'll all come to you. It did before, and you'll do it again." His point? The very things that made her question her possibly having any kind of role, the things that made her a stranger to them... Would be her biggest strength. He wanted her to know that just by being herself... She'd find her way. "Course, that's if you even want a role. If you tell Leon you don't want the cat out of the bag, I'm sure he'll keep it a secret. The world before you is still yours to contribute to it as you want to. I guess what I'm trying to say is that whatever you want to do... As a royal or without... You can do it. I've seen you do whatever you set your mind to before... And you'll do it again." |
For my people... I need to do this."
