appearance
Mokalo is what scientific minds would call a borb. Short and stout, she’s fairly round, but aerodynamic nonetheless. The majority of her feathers are a light blue-gray that deepen in their blue color to the tips of her wings and tail and head-feathers, all the way to a deep black. She carefully preens the feathers atop her head and at the tips of her wings into a curl, priding herself in how they look. Her beak is a slightly grayer black than her feathers, as are her legs, though her talons are completely white--and quite sharp. Her eyes are vibrantly red.
When travelling she wears a pair of leather shoulder-guards, tawny goatskin gloves, a leather piece to cover her torso--kept in place by straps along her back and a clasp between her wings--and a pair of leather “socks” of sorts to keep the bottoms of her feet protected from sharp rocks or hot sand. Around her waist she keeps a rope, dyed a worn-looking shade of red, that is connected to a satchel at her hip. The satchel is where she keeps her parcels and letters, and is closed firmly with a series of metal clasps. Can’t be losing her mail after all.
If she’s venturing into more dangerous places she will attach a quiver of arrows to the clasp on her back, and bring with her a wooden shortbow that she either keeps in her parcel bag or will have in-hand and at the ready.
personality
Mokalo is the cheerful sort; the kind of bird that tweets as it flies around, regardless of rain or snow or sleet or hail. She likes finding new things and visiting new places, meeting new people through her work, and is the sort that is difficult to dampen and even harder to anger. This isn’t to say she’s dense, but rather she likes to remain positive, trying to redirect fighting into a discussion or a person in a bad mood into comfort. Few things really rustle her feathers; the easiest one being direct threats of violence. She’s not a bad fighter (in the air, anyway) but she doesn’t like to fight. Harming others leaves her feeling incredibly upset to the point that she shuts herself off for a time, quite literally brooding until some time has passed.
Mokalo is also bad at staying in one place for very long, both shortterm and longterm. She’s a live wire who can’t help but bob on her knees or tapping her talons when standing still, and nearly always is looking for something to do or fiddle with. When confined to one spot for too long she gets antsy. The easiest solution to this is, well, her line of work. She loves that she gets to travel from town to town, place to place, camp to camp delivering letters and packages to the people of Hyrule and beyond. Even when she doesn’t have any mail to deliver she can be found flying around to her heart’s content. It can make her difficult to reach at times, but she does keep schedule and visit certain towns on specific days to collect letters.
The emotion Mokalo has the hardest time with (aside from “stationary”) is anger. Mokalo is a “sad” angry. She would rather peacefully talk out an issue than argue it, and more often than not breaks down in tears before she can really get her point across. This makes her feel weak and helpless, especially given that she doesn’t like confrontation in the first place.
history
Since long before Mokalo was born, the Rito have been bringers of news between cities, villages, and even islands separated by great expanses of land or sea. Their gift of flight makes them the perfect creature to deliver messages, gifts, or payment regardless of distance. At this point it’s practically tradition for young Rito to take up work as a postman r=or woman, and Mokalo is no exception to this.
Born as one of three girls in a clutch of seven, Mokalo has many siblings that her mother and father still managed to love equally. It helps that the community around them was peaceful and kind, helping to educate and support all hatchlings like their own. From a young age, Mokalo would stare out past the ledges of their floating island, looking down upon the world beneath, longing to explore. She loved the stories brought by Rito adventurers and criers of snow capped mountains too high to climb, great forests spanning farther than the eye could see, of seas so wild that the bravest would not sail them, and, of course, Hyrule itself, with its bustling towns and dungeons and the great castle itself towering above it all.
Mokalo was half-ready to jump off the island just to see it herself. But that would be dumb.
...she still nearly did it twice, being caught by her parents both times.
Once she was old enough and had trained up her wings to fly like the best of them, Mokalo took up the messanger bag and red belt of a postman, and set out to do what she’d been longing to do her whole life: explore this vast, beautiful world.
miscellaneous
Mokalo is one of seven eggmates. The order from oldest to youngest is: Kenlili ♀, Haviss ♂ , Mignill ♂, Mokalo, Laddel ♀, Skashli ♂, and Izla ♂. Most of them are also in the postal service, though Haviss has married and has a farm on their home island, and Laddel has taken to arms and gone off to find adventure beyond Hyrule.
Like all Rito, Mokalo is not very graceful on her feet, and when fighting is at a severe disadvantage should she not have room to fly.
Mokalo’s school of magic is Wind. The only one of her siblings to have chosen the same element as her is Laddel.
