Full Name: Elena Clarke
Alias: simply answers to "Lena"
Age: 21
Birthday: Autumn
Race: Hylian
Occupation: Blacksmith
Pronouns: She/Her
School of Magic: Din
[attr="class","section"]Appearance
Lena is fairly small for her age, standing at about 5'2" and having a relatively slender frame. Despite being in her early 20s, she's often mistaken for being a bit younger, with a lot of people assuming she's closer to fifteen or sixteen. However, despite her slender frame, years of training as a blacksmith have given her a very fit body; it's difficult to notice since she has a habit of wearing loose-fitting clothes, but she actually does have a bit of muscle on her.
She has brown hair, which she usually keeps cut fairly short, and blue eyes. For the most part, she tends to have an unamused look as her default expression, which may make her a little hard to approach, but she warms up and becomes more expressive fairly quickly, so long as anyone who approaches her does so civilly. Much to her dismay, she is rather lacking in the chest department, only able to fill an A-cup. Her mother insists that she's a "late bloomer". Probably.
[attr="class","section"]Personality
Usually, Elena is a fairly friendly person who enjoys meeting others and making friends. At the same time, however, she is also very blunt, and will always speak her mind, regardless of whether or not something she says might insult or otherwise upset someone she doesn't particularly know and/or like very much. If she's with someone she cares about, she will make an effort carefully choose her words. Regardless, she very rarely goes out of her way to insult others, and pretty much the only time she does is if she feels compelled to call someone out on something stupid.
When it comes to her job, and anything else related to weapons in general, she is deadly serious. One of the easiest ways to make her angry is to mistreat or misuse a weapon in front of her. Despite her profession, she dislikes violence, and prefers to think of the weapons as a means to protect others, rather than a tool for killing. She isn't so naive as to believe that her weapons will never be used for terrible things, but she at least keeps her conscious clear by often outright refusing her services to anyone with obviously evil intentions.
When it comes to romance, it's something she is a bit naive about, and has never really given any thought. One thing that can be said is that she greatly prefers woman over men. She isn't even sure why, but she's only ever been attracted to other girls. At the same time, however, she tends to feel a bit self conscious of what others think of her, and this goes doubly for the fact that she's homosexual. As much as she tries, however, it tends to be painfully obvious when she does have a crush on someone, and she's so bad at hiding it that it's almost depressing.
[attr="class","section"]History
Originally from Kakariko Village, Elena was born to an incredibly talented blacksmith. No one was ever going to pretend that most Goron smiths didn't outclass him in every way, but he was still nonetheless incredibly skilled, to the point that there were a few Goron smiths who begrudgingly admitted that he had a lot of talent...for a Hylian, of course. He and Elena's mother, a happy housewife, both lovingly raised Elena, with her father making more than enough money for them to live comfortably, even if they weren't necessarily rich.
Elena (or "Lena, as many of her friends came to call her), had always been a bit shy and reserved, despite having a tomboyish streak a mile wide. While she never had any trouble making friends, she almost always ended being "the quiet one" in her various circles of friends. Nevertheless, her childhood was a fairly normal and happy one; or at least as normal as one can possibly be in a world like Hyrule. There was one thing, however, that caught a lot of people off guard; at an early age, she took a shine to her father's work as a blacksmith.
It seemed innocent enough at first, but both parents were in for a surprise when she declared her intentions of following in her father's footsteps and become as great a blacksmith as he was. It was a bittersweet job; while he enjoyed making and repairing tools for those in the village, he was also called upon to make weapons and armor for soldiers going into battle. It could be rough, knowing that people were going to kill and be killed using weapons he made. As such, that was the first thing he made sure she understood; regardless, she was undeterred.
Thus, with his wife's reluctant blessing, he began her training. Not only did he teach her how to use a forge, be he also trained her physically. Smithing was hard work, after all. At the very least, she was going to need to build up plenty of strength and stamina if she was going to do it for a living. Needless to say, this part ended up being a rather unpleasant surprise, but she was adamant in her goal, and managed to tough it out. And to her father's surprise, she ultimately proved to have quite a bit of potential; it was greatly unrefined, but it was there nonetheless.
Over the years that followed, her training continued, and her skills improved with each passing day. Several years later, on her twentieth birthday, her father gave her an extremely symbolic present; her own smithing hammer. Just as his mentor had done for him, he was giving Elena her own hammer to signify the end of her training. He had taught her everything she needed to strike out on her own; the rest, she'd have to learn for herself. She still wasn't as skilled as he was, but he had nothing left to teach her. The rest, she'd simply have to learn through experience.
The next year was spend preparing Elena for what would be her biggest undertaking; setting up her own smith. While she could have gotten a job working with her father as an assistant or even working on things when he's not able to (and deep down, he would have loved nothing more), they both agreed that it'd be better for her to set up a place of her own. As the first and only favor he would do for her career as a smith, he managed to pull what few strings he had and set her up with a shop in Castle Town. A bit small, but it had a forge pre-installed, and it would suit her well.
Finally, the day came where she would be setting off to Castle Town. Her father spared no expense to get her there safely, even going so far as to hire a bodyguard. Thankfully, they managed to find a relatively safe path, so the journey was a relatively uneventful one. With the bodyguard having received his pay and done his duty (he was the one who found the aforementioned safe path, after all), he was gone the moment Elena entered town. Either way, all that was left was to find the place her father set her up with.
Once she was settled in, she got to work immediately. Things were unsurprisingly slow at first, but steadily started picking up once she got into the groove of things. She's been at it for a few months now, and while she's by no means famous or considered to be the best of the best, she still manages to keep busy and have a respectable number of regular clients. Little by little, word is getting out about the young blacksmith in Castle Town, and with each commission, her skills improve even more. All in all, a win-win situation for all involved
She still has a way to go before she can match her father, but she getting there there; slowly but steadily. For now, she's just taking it one day at a time and waiting to see what fate has in store.
[attr="class","section"]Misc Info
• Though her name is Elena, "Lena" was a commonly-used nickname from when she was younger, and it stuck to the point that even her parents use it when addressing/talking about her. As such, she generally answers to it and only uses her full name when formality dictates that she has to.
• Lena doesn't have much in the way of fighting skills. She can defend herself well enough from the random monster or the occasional thief who assumes she'll be an easy target. That said, she wouldn't be able to last very long in an outright fight.
• Her weapon of choice when she's forced to actually fight is a shortsword, which she uses in conjunction with a small buckler. Both are light enough that she can easily wield them. She also forged them herself, and they're of fairly good quality despite how simple they look. If push comes to shove, her smithing hammer can make for a surprisingly effective improvised weapon, though she prefers to avoid using it for anything other than smithing. It's strictly a last resort.
• Lena was raised by her parents to not be picky, so she will eat just about anything put in front of her, even if it's not something she particularly enjoys. The only thing she won't eat is anything that's extremely spicy. And even then, it's more that she can't handle the heat (somewhat ironically, given her affinity with fire) than any to do with actual flavor.
• In relation to the above, she's not without her favorites. She absolutely loves cheese, and will happily eat anything that includes a lot of it. She also has a fondness for grilled fish, especially when its made the way her mother prepares it. Lastly, she occasionally enjoys a good hard drink at the bar after a long day of work, though she occasionally has trouble convincing any bartenders who don't personally know her that she's actually old enough to buy alcohol.
• Since it comes with the territory of being a blacksmith, she's fairly knowledgeable about various types of rocks and metals. She keeps an ever-growing collection of notes in her personal journal, primarily so she can remember what kinds of qualities they can provide to weapons, armor or tools forged with them.
