True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
|
To be quite honest, Josh was surprised when the Stalfos went down like that. His thoughts had harkened back to the prior battles with Stalfos, and he was just flat out shocked when the thing went down by the double strike of their blades. Of course, then he remembered... One was of the world of dreams, likely scaled to him... And the other was far more powerful due to forces at work. Now to mention... Josh and Crystal had been working together on this, no wonder this fight had been so much easier then before. Had they done this in the battle prior... Well, maybe, just maybe... Josh wouldn't have been injured as badly as he had ended up being at the time.
He would stare down at the Stalfos' head as Crystal would then stomp on it, destroying it for good. "Aye, gravekeeper is an oddball, but nothing inherently wrong with him... I tried talking with spirits at his behest, but... I don't know if I got anywhere on that. Will keep you posted" He would remark as they would continue on, though he would end up smirking as Crystal would make that remark about not knowing where his mouth had been. He would stop then and there, and turn to look her dead in the eyes... And then grinned cheekily as he would tap a finger to her lip.
"Yes. Yes you do."
A Josh from a long time ago might have smacked her square on the arse for that... And they both know how that would have ended up. But as it was now, he would merely chuckle and continue on, noting the quicksand and the fact this might take a bit more thought... Of course, Crystal would offer to go first, and he was fine to let her do so. He would watch carefully her movements as Crystal would hop from place to place, trying to memorize her patterns in order to know what was safe and what was not, also while worrying about his friend and what would happen if she happened to get stuck... But Crystal would make it to the first island safely, and would wave toward him. Letting out a breath, Josh would begin to hop from safe spot to safe spot, based on what he remembered of Crystal's movements. His armor weighed him down a bit, but he still showed he was quite agile as he continued on, until he would reach the island alongside her.
Granted there wasn't much room, and he ended up having to grab onto Crystal's shoulder to keep from falling off.
"Great, okay... What next?"

Crystal sucked in a deep breath, and held strong so the tall blonde could use her as support. "From what I can make out, the way is clear, but it may be trapped. Wait near the light, I'll go first again." Said the brave little midget to the giant. She pat Josh and maneuvered to where he could have most of the platform, performing a skilled hop to solid ground, clearing the quick sand that surrounded where they were at.
Once landing, it turned out even the slightest sound could raise the dead. Several stalmonsters stirred, but didn't fully awaken. Taking a deep, also quiet breath, Crystal began her movement forward. There were... blood stains? On the ground here, and it seemed the one trap that was already here had been triggered. Pursing her lips, she swallowed a feeling of dread and continued forward, moving up to the strange fires on the torches, giving them the "I'm watching you" gesture before turning to josh, giving him a gesture to come on through.
She was afraid to speak because of the stalmonsters though. She wanted to try and avoid any unnecessary fights.

| Josh would lean on Crystal, using the Sheikah as support despite their quite obvious height difference. "We haven't been this close in a couple of years, have we?" He would joke quietly into her ear, continuing to make more and more allusions and teasing Crystal the more that this went on. The question was, what did it all mean? What exactly was he alluding to? Taking most of the platform once Crystal had leaped off, he would wait for the Sheikah to clear the way so he could make his way across, watching her movements as he did to ensure that he knew exactly where to go.
Once she made her way across and indicated it was safe, he would nod his head and begin to hop across as well. Once he had made his way across, step by stop, hop by hop, he would note the bones around them, seeming to sense that they weren't all that dead after all... Slowly his breaths, he would look toward Crystal, giving her the choice of figuring out what to do in this instance. Was there a clear path in front of them to go through? Or was there a puzzle that the two of them needed to solve?

Crystal really didn't want to joke about that here. She was on a mission, and one that meant quite a lot to her actually. It started meaning even more with the blood on the floor as well. She looked up to Josh and shook her head, holding up a finger. He had stopped for some reason, why? She didn't know. She had made it across without a problem, but that's because Sheikah were practically ninjas.
She began to sneaking around, body hugging the edges of the small staircase as she maneuvered around them, hands running over every surface until, aha! She found a switch, but.. what the fuck did it do? She tugged on the switch and braced herself, freezing when nothing happened. To her, the room had 1000 sleeping Dodongo in it. One wrong move, she felt, and the whole room would erupt in chaos.
Instead though, several torches lit, the strange blue flames seeming to shiver and shrink some when the lights clicked on. She gave them a strange look and turned to Josh to make sure everything was ok. The room was relatively empty, and it was much easier to look around. Many remnants of small stal monsters could be seen, killed. Destroyed by something... Only a couple stood up and shook the sand free from their bones, turning towards Crystal and Josh, making all sorts of horrific noises at the pair.
"Go away you little shits. Shoo, ya ankle biters."

True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
| Granted, Josh was just trying to lighten the mood with the jokes and using something relevant and familiar he figured would. But Crystal would probably eventually remember this about him eventually, considering all the times he likely tried to raise morale via humor during their prior cave expeditions over the years before Josh's temporary, two-year retirement. The problem though, was that Crystal kept her cards too close to her chest. It was impossible for him to tell if she didn't want to talk about something because she just didn't bloody convey it. He wouldn't even think she liked him by how cold she could be if she hadn't gone out of her way to bring up this expedition to him to begin with.
He would finish his trek across, slower then Crystal had simply because he knew that he wasn't as nimble as the Sheikah was. Josh had Crystal beat in power, possibly even in technique... But the Sheikah were almost ninja-like in their agility and that had been the basis of a lifetime of training for her. Not to mention... Despite how well-made his armor was and how well-designed it was to protect him as much as possible while being as lightweight as possible, master Goron craftsmanship at it's finest... It still weighed him down more then Crystal's much lighter attire did. Which meant that Josh had to watch his step and take things like this a bit more slowly then Crystal did, pauses and all.
But he did eventually make it across. As he did, he would walk over just as Crystal would flip a switch, as quietly as he could be... While Josh was a proud warrior and would fight if need be, this was a case where they could avoid a battle and conserve their strength, if they were careful and quiet. He would remain quiet when the switch was flipped, a hand slowly making it's way to the sheathe of his blade with the intent to draw immediately if trouble reared it's butt-ugly head. Instead the lights came on, in the form of several torches. He noted their odd blue color, and kept his guard up in turn... He then noticed the monsters making their way towards them. They were smaller, likely not hard to dispatch, but if they made noise, they may wake up that much more.
Granted they were making quite a few horrible, and loud noises as it was. Josh would take a breath and hold out a hand, launching a fireball at them in hopes of scaring them off. If they could conserve their strength for the possibility of something far bigger, then it'd be good to... But if they couldn't, they couldn't. Either way, Josh hoped this would work...
They'd be in for a hell of a fight if they woke anything else up. And unnecessary fights weren't really something that the blonde-haired Hylian was all that much of a fan of. While he could fight and fight till the cows came home... He also knew even he had a limit.

Those damned blue flames followed them everywhere they went, she huffed at them and waved a hand, turning to Josh. "Think you can take care of them while I try to pick this damned lock?" She was observing the lock, frowning at the way it was made, she honestly doubted she could picking something that took such a strangely shaped key.
"Oh, and also, if any of those little fuckers are carrying anything that looks like a key, feel free to snatch it." She reached into her pouch and pulled out a few tools, fiddling with the lock until it ... did it just fucking laugh at her?! "Fuck you lock. Don't laugh at me." She tucked the tools away, sighing and moving to Josh's side, muttering something about 'nevermind, I'll help.'
"You know what I hate?" She'd ask josh, forming another ball of shadow and launching it into the center of a few of the small stalkin that were sauntering their tiny ways over. "When someone thinks it's a good fuckin idea to put a puzzle lock with a missing piece on the damned door." She punted a stalkin into the quick sand, one that obviously wasn't holding anything important.

| "I could make a hot ass joke if they do get you, but at this point, you see that joke coming from me so it's not as fun" He would retort as he would nod in affirmative to her request for him to get rid of what he assumed to be the two blue bubbles on her ass. More jokes about... Something? Well, he seemed to be in a mood of reflection on this fine day. To be frank, it -had- been the first time that the two had actually gone on any sort of voyage into the caves together since their times in the long since past. It as inevitable there was going to be references... Or in Josh's case, jokes. It was his way of addressing anything, really, something that Crystal was likely quite used to at this point.
Though admittedly, perhaps it was time they did finally talk about it in full, sometime soon... It had been an unaddressed thing for several years now. Going on four, if he recalled. It had just quietly ended, their ventures, and everything that... Came with it, and neither had the chance to really speak their mind on the matter.
But for now, Josh was focused on the task at hand. His jokes ceased for the time being as his expression twisted into something far more business-minded...
"Come on!" He taunted toward the blue bubbles to get their attention, swinging his sword in a mocking motion as the blue flames would leave Crystal be to her endeavors and started floating around the golden blonde-haired warrior. A small smirk crossed his lips as he would brandish his blade, ducking down when one would charge his way, before letting out a war cry as he would immediately turn and bring Dragelix down with a downward strike that would slam the blue bubble into the ground, shattering the skull as the flames would disappear... But there were still plenty more to deal with in this instance...
He would make a mental note of Crystal's request to see if any of them held a key. Noting the one he'd just slain did not have anything of note, he would turn his attention back to the others as he would note the appearance of quite the many Stalkin. "Fucking hell..." He would mutter under his breath as he would notice Crystal deciding to make her way over and help out, now that the numbers were becoming more and more overwhelming.
"Cover me" Josh would request toward Crystal as he would bat away one of the Blue Bubbles, before backing away from a crowd of Stalkin as he would hold Dragelix upward pointed down toward the ground, beginning to charge the Flames Of Wrath spell with the intention of giving the two of them some breathing room...

Crystal watched as Josh destroyed the bubbles, though a strange flame carried on, now slipping through the cracks in the door, the lock giggling more now than ever. In irritation, she kicked the door and moved to cover Josh, trying to harass the Stalkin further back from Josh as he prepared his attack. Small kicks were all she needed really, considering the small skeletons weren't really much to deal with to begin with.
Narrowing her eyes, she pointed across the hoard. "There! That little fucker has the missing piece!" She was ready to kick her way through to get to the little bastard, but she was covering Josh for a reason.
Unknowingly contrary to her friend's thoughts though, her mind was on the mission, reminiscing was not something her mind gave her a gift of, and rather, her mind was on a man hunt for whatever happened to her father, seeking insight. She wanted to know more about what happened to him, what he was, and his side of the family. She was tired of not knowing, Crystal didn't like being left in the dark, ironically.

| "MOVE! NOW!"
That growl was all the warning that Josh gave Crystal once she had covered him long enough to properly prepare his attack. He gave Crystal a few seconds to move out of the way before he would let out an earpiercing scream, bring Dragelix down to the ground as the Flames Of Wrath spell would be activated, a wave of flames being unleashed from the ground in all directions and hitting the enemies around them hard - whether they were remaining Bubbles, or Stalkin. The point of course had been to give them some breathing room with them beginning to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of them.
Josh would let out a deep breath as he would try to regain his composure after unleashing the spell, and got his bearings back in time to hear Crystal pin down who the key holder was. At this point, his thoughts on their past had been pushed aside for the time being - his mind was completely focused on the task at hand and the fight that was in front of them.
"I'll cover you, get him!" He would call toward Crystal as he would motion toward the enemy that had the piece. Meanwhile, he would move to get behind Crystal before turning around, brandishing Dragelix as he would prepare to take on the remainder by himself...

With an incredibly annoyed growl, she looked like she was about to go nuclear. The one with the piece knew she was after it and was taunting her with it. She was beyond tired of games it seemed, and with a leap of faith, she dove into the stalkin. The pounce was beyond practiced, everything Sheikah did were practiced anyways. They were athletic and were required to stay strong. Jumping was just one of their skill sets, and for tiny lil Crystal, jumping was precious.
She landed on the Stalkin and a satisfying 'crunch' came from it's old bones as she snagged the key, giving a heavy punt to a couple of the approaching stalkin as she made her way back over, grumbling about how if one more dead or inanimate thing laughs at here today, she was going to flip every last inch of shit in the surrounding, 3 mile radius.
With a heavy sigh, she shoved the key piece into the lock and watched as it clattered to the ground with a satisfying plinking noise. Seeing the lock come undone though caused the remain Stalkin to screech, shudder and run off back into the sands that they had stood from. Raising her eyebrow, Crystal was about to comment until a low, rumbling voice echoed out from the musty corridor she had just opened.
"Fools. Just like the last human to come here, you know not what you seek. You come here, walk on graves and you don't even know what it is you're after!"
"Did you NOT just hear my muttering!?!" She challenged the voice, earning a chuckle... then silence. "Fuck." Crystal growled, turning back to look at Josh while standing in the doorway, nothing visible on the other side yet.
Josh Dragelion Save ur energy lol I wrote this bastard to be hard I also did a thing with those blue flames that dodged his shit and went back to their normal deal. The blue flames are special. Shh. |

| Josh meanwhile had taken it upon himself to fight the Stalkin while Crystal was busy trying to get the key. Using Imbue Weapon, Dragelix would be covered in white hot flames as Josh would charge in, taking the offensive as he would charge the army of Stalkin that had begun to reform as he would begin swinging rapidly and yet with a flow and grace that spoke of his years of experience. The Hylian's movements were like a dance of blades as he moved from one Stalkin to another, dealing fast but powerful blows, with no wasted movements. Wasting movements and slowing down meant he could be hit from behind or caught off guard, and from there the fight would go completely downhill he knew.
Josh caught Crystal from the corner of his eye finally getting what she wanted, and the Stalkin would finally shirk into the shadows. Taking a deep breath as he tried to regain his composure, Josh would sheathe Dragelix as the flames would disappear, and he walked back toward Crystal.
"Did I just see you crush that thing with your arse?" He would joke, a light grin crossing his lips as he would playfully rub his nose. "Hylia alive, I don't know how I survived all those years ago."
Either way, he would remain quiet after that while Crystal would have her little chat with Mr. Spooky. Once their short encounter ceased, Josh would greet Crystal with a shrug when she looked back at him. "So, what's the plan? Do we force our way into the next area, or did you have another idea?" He would inquire. Josh was no Solveig, he couldn't punch the iron off the front of a Skulltulla, but if they had to force their way in, he could try... Granted, he'd prefer if they found an easier way that didn't risk breaking their weapons in the middle of dangerous territory.

Crystal deadpanned and Josh and decided to just let that horse lay. She obviously used her feet to crush it with a heavy stomp, mid jump. She could appreciate his humor a little bit more if she wasn't down here, trying to find the answer to where her dead father had wandered off too.
Well. presumed dead.
"The door is open and I know that I'm not stopping now." She stated with a heavy shoulder roll. Of course she was a little afraid, who wouldn't be? But at the same time, she had been hunting these answers long enough, and she wasn't about to just stop all because of a currently disembodied voice. "Nothing else here has actually said words. Whatever is behind this door is either an advanced ghost, or some piece of shit trying to scare me off. Only one way of finding out."
Crystal stepped through the door, irritation seeming to boil off of her shoulders. As she stepped through the doors, a low, guttural growl resounded through the room she stepped into. It may have been angry, but it still sounded like it wasn't quite dead. Drawing her sword, she looked around the room for the source of the sound.
Nothing came into the view except for the four, blue flames that had been following them around. The flames would shudder before being drawn off into the shadows across the room, going silent, and dark.

| Of course, Josh had merely been teasing her. He knew full well she likely had, but the way it had almost looked from the corner of his eye, it was hard to resist teasing her for. Not that Josh was insensitive to Crystal's predicament, of course. He understood how important this was to her. But he also knew she was working herself up far too much. It was obvious, it was written all over Crystal's face, it was all over her body language. And she was going to make a mistake if she kept going like this, that was a fact.
He nodded his head as Crystal would speak, his expression turning serious then as he would sheathe Dragelix, though would stop Crystal before they stepped through the door with a large hand on her shoulder. He would turn to look her in the eyes.
"Clear your mind" He advised bluntly. "I understand this means a lot to you, I do. But you're pent up as all hell. You're letting this weigh on you too much. You need to relax, calm yourself and be ready to fight as such. I don't care if you're worried about what you'll find, or worked up over what this has to do with your fam... I am not losing you. I care too damn much about you to let you get yourself killed" He would remark. It was the first time Josh had flat out told Crystal that he cared about her. He figured he had made it obvious by now, but this was a flat out first that he'd actually said it.
He let out a sigh, and shook his head as the facade of being serious and blunt and flat and stoic faded like that, his emotions betraying him in that instant. "Just... Agh, I'm not great at this. I'm not good at conveying... Stuff. I'll admit that. I'm probably not even wording this right. I tried to help with humour, and now I'm trying to help with words but I just... Still don't feel like I'm conveying this right. Just... Be careful, okay? Whatever comes, we need to be focused and prepared to take it on. We don't know what's ahead."
Either way, they would head into the room, finding it empty, devoid of nothing but sounds... And those flames from before. He would take a breath as he drew Dragelix, trying to clear his mind as he awaited what might come at them... Even as the room went dark.

"I'm not worked up, my mind is perfectly clear." She snarked back at josh, continuing her path into the room "I just don't like being told what to do, I don't give a damn who you are." She stepped towards the center of the room, eyes glaring through the shadows for a hint of movement of whatever was in there.
It wasn't long before she jumped back, dodging a strange ball of blue shadows that soon faded out of existence. Turning to the direction they came from, a giant of a ... man, creature? Whatever, stepped from the darkness, carrying a jar full of swirling blue light. When all is quiet, faint screams could be heard in the jar.
In fact, that light matched the blue flames that followed them around so diligently. The strange mask that the creature wore rattled as he shook his head violently, voice becoming a low growl. "Just like the Sheikah fool before you, you wi-" Crystal cut the creature off with a mocking tone. "You will die! Yea yea yea, shut the hell up and get out of my way or I'll beat you out of it." She earned another low growl.
"Maybe in death you'll-" "Learn my manners?"
"stop cutting me" "off."
The creature roared and backed up, preparing another ball of shadows in his hand to lob at her, all while summoning a single Stalfos to his side.

| "Yeah, and that wench at the old Milk Bar was as chaste as a nun" He snarked right back as he walked beside her. "I'm not telling you what to do, I'm telling you that you're going to get hurt and I'm worried about you. There -is- a difference you know" He would correct, shaking his head before he would be forced to jump back along with Crystal when something seemed to appear.
He watched then as some sort of creature would form, a jar of swirling blue light in their possession. The thing would begin to speak, only for Crystal to interrupt it. And then did so again. And again. And again. Josh couldn't help but begin to snicker under his breath as Crystal was clearly not having any of it's shit. See, it was hilarious when it wasn't you or something that you cared about she was being a right bitch to. But she did manage to piss the thing off, evidenced by the roar that followed and the ball of shadows that was being summoned. Oh and the Stalfos too.
"Oh bloody hell, not another one of those" He would remark as he looked toward the Stalfos. "It doesn't seem to have the aura from the battle before, at least... This might not be impossible, but for the love of the Three, please at least be on your guard."
