Every Man Breaks [Open]

I've seen a lot in this lifetime of mine
It doesn't matter if you're the best. If you're the strongest. If you're the toughest. If you're the most charismatic, the most famed. Whether you're a human Hylian, or a rock-like Goron. Whether you're a man, woman or child. Everyone breaks. The snow hadn't fallen yet. But it was certainly getting cold on Josh and Maude's ranch. Maude was asleep, resting after what had happened. Josh had tried to keep his composure after the incident at the Starlight Festival, and had returned more fully to training on dummies outside to keep his mind off it, but... How much could a man take? "GRRRRRARRRRGH!" The torched dummy would fly far over the fence, slamming into the dirt road in Ordon Village before the flames would go out, the dummy having rapidly melted halfway before it had. But Josh didn't care. It was out of sight, out of mind, and Dragelix was drawn as the Hylian would let out a scream, striking the next one with a fury as he would shatter the head on the dummy with Dragelix with an overhand strike. His blows weren't the graceful, planned out quickly ones that he dealt. Nothing of his movements was Josh's calculated but quick style that relied on his quick wits and battling know-how. No... This was pure rage, this was pure striking out in a fit of devastation. Something was going on in his head that he was trying to suppress, but after suppressing it for so long, it had finally come out... He couldn't protect her. He couldn't protect his Maude when she needed him most. Those monsters had shattered her leg in that incident... And he hadn't been able to stop it. It was all his fault. All his fault... He tried so hard to deny it, to hold it all in, but the truth just hit him over and over until he couldn't take it anymore. Josh didn't want to resort to getting drunk, Maude would see right through him. He didn't want to worry his Maude... All he could do was lash out at the dummies, when she wasn't looking. It wasn't even training anymore, it was just his unsuccessful attempts to cope... To put off the inevitable... He let out a cry once more as he would slash his hardest at the dummy's side. It was uncoordinated, sloppy and flat out power. Power, and nothing more. It sliced the dummy clean off it's stand, but... It was only because it was stationary. A moving opponent would never have taken that. Pure power cut it clean off, but it was hardly something to celebrate. After all, all he was doing was just trying to forget... And just like with Maude... He had failed. The Hylian finally fell to his knees, staring out at the sky for a moment with his eyes wide. His brows would furl into a scowl, and he gritted his teeth as he would slam his fist into the grass. He didn't care as the blow to the hard ground began to draw blood the moment he did it again. He couldn't feel it. He couldn't feel anything anymore... "DAMNIT!" That followed the next punch to the ground as blood poured from the cut. He couldn't put it away anymore... He'd failed Maude, he couldn't protect her... What good was he? All he seemed to do was fail... He failed his family, failed to protect Dia all those years ago, failed to protect his mother, his father, his brother... He failed to keep himself in check when it came to Moblins, and now he couldn't even protect Maude... He couldn't take seeing her suffer. He couldn't take seeing her in that cast. He couldn't take seeing her have a hard time walking, struggle to do simple things. Be forced to wallow in misery as he had to force her to sit down and not do what she loved. Not tend to crops and work around the ranch and house. And HE had to force her to rest... HE had to keep her away from what she loved to do. For her safety, for her recovery, sure... But it was him who had to do it to her. And all his fault she was hurt to begin with... He couldn't take it... He couldn't take seeing that, and he couldn't take seeing the memory of her leg shattering in front of him, her scream, her cry, that continued to radiate in his ears, and haunt his dreams... He'd finally broken down, as tears would begin to pour from his cheeks. He'd tried to hold it off, but just like everything else... He had failed. OOC: Tags: |
