[attr="class","section"]the character
Impetuous, juvenile, impish. Words that are often bandied about in relation to the Twili. All very apt summations of him. He is a bundle of eccentric energy that appears to have very little direction in life outside of hedonism. The two main goals of his life are to have a good time and not get tied down with the tedium of the every day. Often this results in -mostly- harmless and good natured pranks or stirring of the proverbial pot. If it doesn’t get traced back to him, or get others into trouble, who cares? Being a talented illusionist usually means someone non-existent gets the blame. He enjoys creating wonderful and entertaining memories before flitting off to the next new thing or person. It can be exciting and fun to be around him.
He is almost pathologically a contrarian that aspires to being some grand karmic trickster. However, it is the brand of contrarianism that has very little substance or understanding behind it. Sae will tout himself as a progressive thinker, unmoored to the constraints of unnecessary rules that harm others in the long run. The reality is that it is hollow attempt to stand out as different. Rebelling for the sake of rebelling. At worst, it makes him highly susceptible to being easily duped by people that can appeal to this rebelliousness. There is a saying that still waters run deep – Sae seemingly appears to have all the depth of a rock pool in this aspect.
At his core, Sae is a very flighty and self-centered individual. He will steadfastly refuse to give up his sense of freedom for another, even if he does care for them. Vulnerability is something he struggles with. To call him a fair-weather friend would be accurate. As while he may seem likeable and friendly, he will do whatever he can to put up walls or instigate some form of drama to cut cords when they either become inconvenient or threatens to cross a threshold into a type of emotional intimacy he feels caged by. Getting him to admit wrongdoings or confronting him is likely to end with him petulantly rebuking seemingly concrete evidence, changing the subject or sulking and refusing to respond. Possibly the only upside to this aspect of his personality is that he views this as equally important for others to enjoy the same liberty to do what they want without him imposing on them. Perhaps one day the ramifications of his own actions will catch up with him and he will grow from it. Perhaps not.
[attr="class","section"] history
Sae was born to the Mizru clan – Twili that weren’t particularly notable or talented. It may have been speculated that it was the perfect cover for a notorious family of spies. Something Sae would play to when he was older, but not factual in the least. They were but simple straight-laced petty bureaucrats types that were very comfortable with middle-management positions in an area of magical research only they were interested in.
It was a life that Sae vehemently rejected. He knew he wanted to do something much more exciting than what his parents did. Which, for the record, his parents were very supportive of. This was infuriatingly ruining his narrative of rebelling against his parents expectations of him to follow in their footsteps.
He would develop an uncanny ability to manifest illusions through the shadowy magics of Demise. He was particularly good at taking on the appearance of imaginary people. It allowed him to find joy in life. Performing innocuous pranks on others and being someone else for just another moment. This gift of his was noted as being of value to espionage efforts, and he was recruited young to engage on reconnaissance. He was given extensive martial and espionage training before starting.
Interspersed throughout these jobs were little hints of a political counterculture that drew him in like a moth to a flame. If it weren’t for the surprise of him actually being able to keep his cover and not draw attention to himself on missions: his interest may have been picked up sooner from more senior officials. He obtained a rather elegant dagger made out of a metal that appears almost like glass some time throughout his career as a spy. It doesn't appear to have any latent abilities - it just looks neat. He particularly likes to produce phantom or shadowy copies of it to confuse his enemies when confronted in combat.
So it came as a shock to many that knew the Twili when Raalk usurped the Twilight realm and overthrew the royal family that Sae was openly supportive of this and helped in the effort.
The graveness of Sae’s error in judgement almost immediately confronted him when he saw what regime Raalk would put in place. Feeling lied to, Sae began to plot a way to extract himself from the Twilight Realm and subtly assist the resistance forces that were forming against the tyrant. Subconsciously he felt very guilty for his role in how events had transpired and wanted to make amends - even if it was realistically no more than grunt work he had done. Though none would likely know about how deeply this is felt by him. He feels that it is even less likely that the resistance would accept him based off his previous actions.
With Raalk more brazenly attacking the realm of Hyrule, Sae would set in motion a series of events that would allow for him to seemingly permanently vanish from existence. His hope is to provide whatever he can get his grubby little hands to leave for the Twili resistance to conveniently stumble across. From there he plans to make his own way in this new world away from the constraints he felt in the Twilight Realm.
True to form he has not put in any consideration about the logistics of avoiding the sun, or how he will blend in with Hyrule's people more broadly. But to Sae, where's the fun in not making it up as he goes along?
[attr="class","section"]appearance
Standing in at 6’2 with a slim, muscular build. His skin tone is a pallid grey blue, with shadowy black offsets covering the entirety of his right arm and most of his right leg. Luminescent aqua and blue markings run down his left arm. His clan’s insignia is marked on his left hip in the same luminescent colour scheme.
His facial features are foxlike in that he has a thin face with high cheekbones and thin eyebrows that curve upwards. His eyes are upturned and glow a pale yellow – though usually glow a pink violet when he is casting magic. He has asymmetric, spiky strawberry blonde hair that often hangs over his right shoulder. An impish grin often plays off his face and is often accompanied by a wiggle of his brows. Sae considers himself both roguishly handsome and very cute. What an egotist.
Perhaps contrary to expectations, he does enjoy wearing brightly coloured and draped clothing. He enjoys dynamic and bold patterns. He does like to show off a fair amount of skin regardless of what he is wearing. He doesn't spend so much time exercising not to. The results of this often are garish coloured clothing and clashing patterns that more often than not really do not work together. Sae often looks like he fell into a sales rack of fabric and continued on with his day.
When he alters his appearance, he must maintain some aspect of his original appearance. Often he would keep his eye or hair colour. To remove all physical traces of himself would be too taxing on his stamina and would require a rather extensive list of reagents to cast. This rule similarly applies to if he is trying to imitate the appearance of someone else – and often there will be something uncanny about this kind of transformation. As a perfect illusion of someone else is near impossible to maintain for extended periods. This compounded with the social stealth aspect that goes into pretending to be an actual person makes it a very challenging endeavour that he would much rather not get into. Far too much planning!
He will most often take the form of a male Gerudo with the same hair colour and eye colour when in the Light Realm (naturally with sclera and irises – he would imagine glowing eyes aren’t very common amongst them). Essentially this illusion will keep all the key aspects of his own appearance but allow him to blend in better with those around him in Hyrule while minimising the strain of keeping up an illusion for a long time.
