[attr="class","header"]HYRULE CHRONICLE
Spring/Summer, year 02 | issue 02[attr="class","header"]THE BATTLE OF ELDIN!
Hello readers! You are now reading the Hyrule Chronicle, soon to be the leading source in news for Hyrule's biggest happenings and exploits! I'm Rita Ceres, head writer of the Hyrule Chronicle, and it is my pleasure to bring the latest news to you! Whether you're buying our issues from our stall in lovely Hyrule City, or subscribing to have issues delivered by mail to your home, we always deliver on our promise to keep you in the know!
And this issue will be our most exciting one yet! War has been declared between the allied forces of Hyrule and the army of monsters that have been beset upon us over the last year. This enemy army appears to have perpetuated both the Starlight Tragedy and the attack on Zora's Domain. King Leon El Hyrule has temporarily taken his leave of Hyrule in order to investigate the origins of this monster army, promising that if he found them, he would bring back the enemy leader's head. In his place, a Council of Hyrule was temporarily anointed.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long after the King's search began that the monsters struck again. The Battle Of Eldin was waged on two fronts as monsters under the control of the Twili invader would attack both Death Mountain and Kakariko Village. The substitute head of Hyrule's military force, a distant cousin of King Leon appointed to the role by the Council of Hyrule, would disappear partway into the battle. Without proper leadership, Hyrule's forces would begin to take heavy losses. With the bulk of Hyrule's army falling apart in the face of overwhelming numbers in their opposition and without leadership, Kakariko appeared to be doomed to a repeat of the Starlight Tragedy. But in a surprising twist, one of Hyrule's younger soldiers would step up and take the reigns of the Army Of Hyrule. With surprising tactical skill, a young man with only the rank of Lieutenant was able to organize Hyrule's forces to begin turning the tide of the battle. With a faint chance of victory in sight, the men's spirits were roused.
Eyewitnesses were able to make record of the speech that the makeshift leader of their forces had made upon taking the reigns:
"PEOPLE OF HYRULE! WE STAND AT DEATH'S DOOR, BUT WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY TO OUR GRAVES! THESE MONSTERS WANT TO BURN OUR HOMES, KILL OUR LOVED ONES AND TAKE AWAY THE PLACE WE CALL HOME! IT IS TIME WE PROVE WHY WE HAVE STOOD TALL FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS! HOLD YOUR HEADS HIGH, FOR YOU ARE SOLDIERS OF HYRULE, AND DEFEND YOUR KINGDOM! FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY! FOR HYRULE!"
The Chronicle's search for the identity of this soldier would yield the name "Josh Dragonsflame" who information states had somehow earned the loyalty of the army in a bid to accomplish the impossible. Dragonsflame would seemingly sacrifice his life to take out the enemy commander, but reports state that the soldier narrowly survived the encounter, albeit with near-mortal injuries. Once Kakariko Village gained victory, the makeshift leader would send troops to Death Mountain.
Death Mountain's Gorons, led by their Chief Solveig would wage a war of their own against the monsters that had made their way up the mountain. Defending their homes, the Gorons would fight with everything they had. During the climax of the conflict, the activity would disturb Death Mountain enough to cause the volcano to blow, throwing rocks and magma across the field. The eruption would stop the enemy's invasion in it's tracks and take out their leader, but the eruption threatened to swallow both the home of the Gorons and the Hylians whole.
Hyrule's forces though, were narrowly able to contain and neutralize the magma flow. With Death Mountain and Kakariko Village now safe, the victorious party would be approached by an older man named Shigamarsu. He spoke of an artifact called the Mirror Of Twilight, used to allow the Twili to enter this world. With pieces scattered around Hyrule, the factions of Hyrule have presently begun working together to find the pieces of the Mirror. All except for the Zora, whose King Zora has publicly stated he does not care for such things and the Zora people will not be lending their aid for as long as he rules over them.
An arrest warrant for the Hylian soldier Josh Dragonsflame would be sent out, on charges of large-scale insubordination. Reports stated that Dragonsflame had been missing since the aftermath of the battle, and was on the run despite the injuries he suffered. He would later be found in his home of Ordon Village, having apparently been brought back by a civilian to treat his injuries. While he had been located, Hyrule's forces were ordered by Knight Captain Tethras not to bring him in until he could walk of his own power. Once he was healed up, he was arrested and brought before the Council of Hyrule.
Dragonsflame faced expulsion from the military as well as a lifetime in prison for repeated and large-scale insubordination that teetered on treason. One Council member even apparently suggested executing him to be made an example of. But while the politics of disobeying orders were debated, the Council was reminded that despite these repeated offenses, each one had saved many lives, especially during the Battle of Eldin. Captain Tethras refused to sentence his charge, stating he was a hero and he would not condemn the boy for doing his job.
In a surprising turn, the decision was made to promote the young Lieutenant, fast-tracking him to the rank of Knight Of Hyrule. With the promotion making his actions at the Battle Of Eldin completely legal in the absence of a willing General, he was absolved of his crimes with a stern warning about following orders. Following an interrogation that was leaked to us, the Chronicle was also able to find out that this was far from the young man's first time leading forces. Having once been Guard Captain of a town in Termina, he had taken the mantle surname of Dragonsflame to honor his late father. But in a show of fealty, the newly minted Knight would reveal his true name to the Royal Family: Josh Dragelion.
But even with a new Knight in our ranks and Kakariko Village saved, the village would need to be rebuilt almost entirely from the ground up by the survivors saved by Hyrule's forces. On top of this, scouts have reported that the aforementioned bandit camps have taken hostages. Reports of slave trade have also begun to circulate, as well as the possibility that the slaves being traded may be supplied from amongst those who have gone missing...
On the Zora front, claiming that the monsters that attacked Zora's Domain are getting in through Hyrule's waterways, the Zora Emperor has further restricted travel in Hyrule's rivers, mandating that tolls be taken for passage through the river by outsiders of the Domain. Not all parties throughout Hyrule are happy of course, and many are claiming the Emperor is twisting and taking advantage of events for his own ends. Others even state that the monsters did not come from the waterways at all.
It wasn't long after this that in a stunning turn of events, the former aide Anastasia would return to the Domain with an army comprised of Zora dissidents. In a quick but decisive melee, the revolution would be met with swift success in favor of the rebellion. With the Usurper having himself been ousted from his throne, conquering hero and leader of the rebellion Anastasia has elected to abdicate rule over the Zora in favor of the now-Emperor Riven Groupan. Emperor Riven has renewed the Zora's support for Hyrule's fight against the invading monsters. With the Zora now rejoining the war effort, our chances of victory have gone back up!
But in the aftermath of The Battle Of Eldin, many of the Goron have apparently begun to become restless after so much destruction has overcome their home following Death Mountain's eruption. Some have publicly and loudly stated their doubts of the competence of Chief Solveig and his ability to lead. Coinciding with these reports, a witness has come forward to state that an attempt has been made on the life of the Goron Chief, though Solveig has survived the attempt.
Hopefully the Goron can sort things out soon, as reports have begun to surface that scouts are beginning to lock onto the location of three of the pieces of the Mirror Of Twilight. Once these locations are confirmed, recovery teams will be dispatched. And I wish them luck! These attacks are bad for business if there isn't anyone to subscribe to us! This is Rita Ceres, signing off!
