Hello readers! You are now reading the Hyrule Chronicle, soon to be the leading source in news for Hyrule's biggest happenings and exploits! I'm Rita Ceres, head writer of the Hyrule Chronicle, and it is my pleasure to bring the latest news to your homes! Whether you're buying our issues from our stall in lovely Hyrule City, or subscribing to have issues delivered by mail to your home, know that we are dedicated to ensuring you will always be in the know!
Unfortunately, our debut issue will be a somber one. The annual Starlight Festival was to be a day of festivities in Hyrule City. But this day will forever be remembered for the great tragedy that now plagues it. Monsters besieged Hyrule City, perpetrating a horrific massacre with every intention of razing the city to the ground. Eyewitnesses were able to identify a few of the survivors present who led the charge against them. Crown Prince Leon El Hyrule, the Prince's Royal Guards and others fought their hardest to defend the city, but though they managed to save Hyrule City from destruction, nothing could stop the untimely demise of King Daphnes El Hyrule VI as assassins seized the opportunity to sneak into Hyrule Castle amidst the chaos and kill the King Of Hyrule in cold blood. On this day, Hyrule was left to mourn without its leader. Crown Prince Leon is set to take the throne, in hopes of guiding Hyrule forward with a song of healing.
Hyrule's Royal Family wasn't the only one to have their political leadership shook to its core either. Shockwaves were sent throughout the Zora Empire recently, as a fierce power struggle ended with the forceful ousting of the beloved Zora King Finlium the Second. In his place, a Zora only known as The Usurper now rules the Zora Empire. Information is scarce as the people bemoan how an outsider could form an army and wrest power from the Zora's royal family. Some attribute the Usurper's rise to power as through manipulation behind the scenes, while others say he struck the former King down in cold blood and proclaimed that a Zora like him was necessary for the Zora to continue to survive amongst the rising monster threat.
The Goron at least, seem to be in high spirits, and for good reason. Sources say that Goron Chief Solveig journeyed into the Goron Mines within the deepest depths of Death Mountain, and returned having slain a creature that had plagued his tribe for years. This was also apparently a personal victory for Solveig as well, who had some personal history with this creature. The source also claims he was accompanied by a young Hylian, who emerged looking as war-torn and weary as the Chief himself. After further investigation, the Chronicle was able to put a name to this individual. The investigation yielded the name of a man called "Josh Dragonsflame", a survivor the Starlight Tragedy and a ranch owner from Ordon Village who has recently enlisted with Hyrule's military after the events of the Tragedy. Not much is known about this young man, only that he came to Death Mountain seeking business with the Chief.
It wasn't long after this though, that Zora's Domain was brutally attacked by an army of monsters. Reports say that otherworldly portals allowed monsters with a strange aura to easily breach the throne room. Forces of Hyrule's military were able to assist their Zora allies with repelling the attack, with Knight Captain Barrett Tethras at the forefront alongside newly crowned King Leon El Hyrule himself, leading a charge that included soldiers Josh Dragonsflame and Kamohoali'i Ka'ana'ana, as well as the King's own personal guards in the form of Crystal Genjaro and Nador Vakarian.
With the monsters defeated, a witness at the scene proclaimed that the one responsible for the attack was a member of the ancient Twili people, who have not been heard of in anything but ancient texts and folklore from generations past. Regardless of who was responsible, a great many Zora were killed in the attack, and Zora's Domain will have a long process to rebuild. The King Zora was reported to have fled the battle soon after it had begun, and the Zora people have begun to whisper about being unhappy that their King had abandoned them to be slaughtered. Now formerly the King's right hand, the Zora Anastasia stayed behind to fight in the battle, before leaving Zora's Domain with no sign of a return. Some whisper that Anastasia has begun assembling a force of their own...
Monsters on the roads have been more dangerous and more frequent than ever since the Tragedy. But now reports are cropping up that crime rates have increased exponentially as well. Bandit camps have begun cropping up more often, as people appear to either be turning to crime in response to a weakened economy, or are simply seizing an opportunity where they see one. Thefts, break-ins and muggings on the roads have become a common happening as of late. Knight Captain Tethras has proclaimed to me, Rita Ceres, that the men and women of Hyrule's military will stop at nothing to keep their people safe.
But sources have also reported that an alarming amount of people have gone missing. From those taking a simple walk in the fields, or are part of travelling caravans delivering shipments, many have not returned. Province leaders Leon, Solveig and the Zora King have promised to increase patrols in response to these reports. The people of Hyrule are cautioned to be very careful when travelling the roads, especially at night.
We hope you enjoyed the debut issue of the Hyrule Chronicle, and hopefully we'll have more news for you too! This is Rita Ceres, signing off!
