[attr="class","section"]The Empire Reigns
In the 5th Era, a hundred years since the fall of Alduin and the legend of the Last Dragonborn, the land of Tamriel has changed greatly.
After the Imperials claimed victory over Ulfric Stormcloak, much of Tamriel was united in a last desperate bid to defeat the Aldemeri Dominion before it could complete its goal of wiping out the races of man. After a great many battles with the Last Dragonborn as the commander of the allied forces, the Thalmor were dealt a devastating blow and forced into hiding. Several attempts to seize power once again were attempted, but the Empire had regained its strength in the time since. Under the command of a new line of Emperors after Emperor Mede's assassination, through genius but ruthless tactical prowess and management it was able to eventually regain the fealty of Skyrim and High Rock, as well as bringing Valenwood, Elswyre and the Summerset Isles to heel after the Thalmor were extinguished. Hammerfell, Morrowind and Black Marsh remain independent, though their relationship with this new Empire is strained.

[attr="class","section"]Skyrim
{After Ulfric's death...} Elisif was declared as High Queen of Skyrim. With the White-Gold Concordant lifted, worship of Talos in Skyrim was once again allowed. Hoping to prevent the rise of another Ulfric, trade deals between Cyrodil and Skyrim were amended to give Skyrim a better share. Between its newfound wealth and the changes in the Empire's leadership, Skyrim's relationship with the Empire improved tremendously, though not all citizens are as happy about the Empire's battle-happy leadership as others. They fear the possibility that this relationship could turn sour quickly, and with the Empire's might it would not end well for Skyrim. Skyrim is currently governed by Elisif's descendent, High King Tya. A war hero who was voted to succeed his predecessor when the time came. While he fosters good relations with the Empire, some feel it is his own bloodlust that fuels his loyalty. Ruthless in his own right even by Nord standards, some have referred to him as "Tya the Bloody" in closed quarters.
[attr="class","section"]Factions
{While the Last Dragonborn did not join any guilds during their lifetime...}Gifted individuals were able to ensure the survival of their respective factions during the Civil War. With the exception of the Dark Brotherhood, which was wiped out in the midst of their assassination of Tidus Mede II. While it was assumed they had been finished off, the Black Sacrement has continued to be performed, and in many cases, those that are wanted dead, are made to be such. Despite this, it is still to this day difficult to prove that the Dark Brotherhood had anything to do with these killings.
The Companions were rid of their curse after Kodlak and the Circle were cured, but some in the century since paid homage to the spirit of the beast by taking animal companions with them during their work. With the appointment of Harbinger Odfel Brightvane to the role of Whiterun's Jarl, the Companions entered a close alliance with Whiterun itself. While it continued to operate as its own organization for a period, it was only a matter of time before the Companions officially swore their service to Whiterun. They had sworn to fight alongside their family no matter what, and that family now led Whiterun. Thus, Whiterun itself became family. And family always sticks together. The Companions were now an outreach unit, specializing in missions outside of the city's walls. Led by newly appointed Harbinger Jegnorr Scaleblade, the traditions of the Companions would live on within their unit.
The College of Winterhold was merged into the fold of the Mage's Guild, becoming Skyrim's official branch for the guild as part of the Empire's attempts to prevent the people of Winterhold from destroying the College following the incident with the Eye of Magnus that nearly levelled the city once again. With necromancy outlawed in Skyrim and the College now under new leadership, stability was returned to the region and Winterhold was able to rebuild into a great and powerful city in the time since, with the College now serving as a testament to its importance. This unsteady peace may not remain forever though. A level of fear on that scale can be difficult to forget, and old grudges are not so easily tossed aside.

[attr="class","section"]The Looming Threat...
{It is said that through some strange magic, the Dwemer have returned to Skyrim despite their apparent extinction many eons ago.} They have taken up residence in old Dwemer ruins and have begun stockpiling their old inventions and parts for some purpose. Meanwhile, the Falmer appear to have somehow regained their original forms, and have joined the Dwemer in their goal. But perhaps even more alarming than that, is the sudden re-emergence of the dragons, thought long extinct since the Last Dragonborn defeated Alduin. Winterhold and Dawnstar have nearly been laid to waste by these dragons, and none know where they come from. Or where they may strike next.
[attr="class","section"]Chapter 2
{Six Months have passed…} Dragons continued to attack settlements in Skyrim, seemingly at random. This pressing concern would eventually reach the ears of High King Tya, and forces from Solitude would be gathered to hunt the beasts.
Of course, most didn’t return. The dragons were a force of nature beyond anything that Skyrim could have possibly prepared for. All they could do was defend themselves until they could mount a counterattack, and repair the settlements that had been hit.
Whiterun meanwhile had its own problems. Members of the Companions division of Whiterun’s military had discovered a plot enacted by members of the surviving Silver Hand, ancient enemies of the Companions. While the Companions had sworn off the beast’s blood after the death of Kodlak White-Mane, the Silver Hand had decided that there was no cleansing them of their taint, and as Whiterun had accepted them, they were also tainted.
Jarl Odfel, who had narrowly escaped assassination, came to the conclusion that the Silver Hand intends for the City of Whiterun to burn.
The Silver Hand were discovered to have been been performing experiments to infuse themselves with the blood of an ancient line of vampires in order to harness the power of a Vampire Lord to kill Whiterun’s leaders and burn the city to the ground. Some were unsuccessful, becoming savage beasts who were released to roam and rampage through Whiterun Hold, with the Hand hoping they would weaken Whiterun before the siege. But those who were successful gained power beyond their wildest dreams… All in their desperate desires to see the world rid of the Companions once and for all.
Between a potential siege by the Hand and the threat of a dragon attack, Jarl Odfel ordered the Companions, led by Harbinger Jegnorr Scaleblade, to work to prepare the city for siege. Jegnorr would find the remnants of an old cannon from a forgotten age in a ghost ship, salvaging it with the help of Venafyn and beginning work on improving the design in order to mount Whiterun’s walls with adjustable cannons to fight back a dragon attack. Thanks to their efforts, Whiterun would become one of the most fortified cities in all of Skyrim.
Venafyn meanwhile, would be accepted into the Harbinger’s confidence and earn a position on the Companions Circle. She would begin traveling the world to find artifacts for inspiration for further inventions, in hopes of aiding her city further. Upon her return, she would shut herself away in her workshop, rarely coming out except to handle Circle duties.
Amelia would become one of Whiterun’s court mages, specializing as an alchemist. Though she continued to remain an honorary Companion. She would travel around, collecting materials to prepare their troops for siege while also pursuing her own goals.
Jarl Odfel, seeing that Jegnorr had a gift for the Thu’um, would command the Harbinger to climb High Hrothgar, and train with the Greybeards.
Leaving the Companions in Venafyn’s care, and carrying a note from Odfel that put the Greybeards into a position where they had to train Scaleblade and his dragonling Ahkrin, Jegnorr would journey to High Hrothgar, accompanied by Amelia Gafdein as an escort. Jegnorr was strangely prodigious in learning and utilizing the Thu’um. While not able to learn instantly like the Dragonborn of old, he was a quick study all the same. With Amelia’s knowledge of the language aiding in his tutoring, Jegnorr began to learn to use the Thu’um at an alarming rate, and he would soon be able to tutor Ahkrin in all he had learned as well, as per the terms of his arrangement with the Greybeards.
Amelia meanwhile, had learned a great deal about the Thu’um while working with Scaleblade, and had begun to show a capability to use Shouts herself.
Six months after their departure, Scaleblade and Gafdein would leave High Hrothgar. While the Greybeards preferred they stay and learn their pacifist ways, Paarthurnax gave the Greybeards his blessing to let them go. Even the great elder dragon could not deny the visions he had been seeing, and he knew that the world below would need all the help they could get.
