Ryder is a massive jerk. Not many ways to get around it, honestly. Most of the time, this arrogant piece of Bokoblin slime will boldly proclaim how he’s the finest swordsman in all of Hyrule, how he’ll challenge anyone who claims otherwise, and then spend the rest of his time running from actual challengers. Not to say he’s a terrible swordsman, but Ryder is the type of guy who runs his mouth too long and goes too far; needless to say, what goes around comes around.
Despite all of the outward bravado, Ryder is a man of incredible drive; his heavily documented travels across Hyrule noted in his journals are evidence of his hard work ethic. His work is efficient and done with incredible care, regardless of how menial the task is. He takes pride in a job well done, and a good portion of his façade of bold arrogance fades a bit when helping orphans.
Ryder loves to travel. Seeing a sight he’s never seen before is one of the most exhilarating rushes a man could have. He’s gotten used to rock-climbing, river-crossing, snow-trekking, desert-crossing, all for the sake of seeing what the world has to offer. He takes small souvenirs from the places he travels as well, mementos of the sights he cherishes.
[attr="class","section"]Background
Orphaned as an infant, Ryder Ash took his odd family name after seeing an artist’s rendition of Death Mountain, and the falling ash from the volcano. What a sight! Even drawn by paintbrush and canvas, the majesty of the mighty mountain was enough to convince Ryder that he wanted to explore every inch of that mountain.
But Death Mountain is a dangerous place. Monsters lurk around every corner, the heat was unbearable for Hylians without expensive protection, and the trek itself was intense and not for the faint of heart.
So Ryder began to work.
He studied swordplay, mastering the blade as best he could without joining the Hylian Army. Ryder researched the monsters of Hyrule, understanding how to fight or flee from most of them. The young man worked hard, everyday, until he decided to take off from his orphanage and traverse Death Mountain. Reaching the Goron village was a mark of pride, and soon Ryder made plans to explore the rest of Hyrule; he explored frosty vistas, heated deserts, the rough terrains of mountains and the beautiful valleys. All the while he sharpened his skills, honed his blade, and even mastered some magic potential boiling inside of him.
His proudest moment, and his biggest brag, is being a part of the collection of heroes who faced the Demon King, Ganondorf, for control of the Triforce. While his arrogance explodes whenever he tells the tale, in truth the bladesman played an important role in the conflict, aiding and assisting with magic and force. When the fight ended, Ryder found his parents alive once more, a tender gift from the Triforce. With tears in his eyes, he told them the Legend he found himself a part of once more, all while they wondered if his story was true; only the word of the King would be enough to convince them.
In the time since, he has been a vital asset to the Kingdom across the realm, especially with his knowledge of the lay of the land. Ryder Ash has styled himself as a "Hero of Hyrule for Hyre", allowing anyone who needs the (affordable) services of a legendary hero to trust his skills and see the job be done. All the while, he's home as much as he can be, to spend time with his parents and learn more about them. A good life.
