"For my Kingdom...
Was he ready for this? Josh had failed as a husband. As a lover. As a man who was sworn to protect the one person he cherished most. This person had brought him happiness beyond measure, and all he needed to do was protect that happiness. And he hadn't been able to do even that. He had lost that, and more. And it had haunted him in the year since. Rarely a night went by where he was reminded of the fact he was supposed to be living a domestic life right now, on his farm, with the one he cherished most, and with what was to come... Even more happiness. But it wasn't to be. He'd failed. They were gone. They were all gone. He'd been left alone, cold... Left behind... And without light or soul inside of him. A part of him had died that day, and with it, had gone any desire he had to pursue a relationship. But he knew deep down that he couldn't mourn forever. He had been suppressing this fact for a long time. Putting it off, not thinking about it for as long as he could. But this event, and the co-worker in the military who had pressed him into signing up, for reasons that he suspected were nefarious in nature... Brought to the surface the reality of the situation. He needed to get back out there. Deep down he was afraid of getting back out there, putting himself out there. He didn't know if he knew how to date anymore. How did one date? It had been so long since he'd needed to think about that. Now it was a foe staring him dead in the face. Did he even deserve to be happy again after he had failed the first time? What if he failed again? These were questions that would haunt him, but he tucked them away for the time being. The Knight had managed to calm himself just enough to show up. This was meant to relieve stress, he recalled. Not cause more of it. The worst that could happen was that it wouldn't work out, right? That... That wasn't so bad, he supposed. He was used to that happening. Used to unrequited loves, especially. He could do this. He just hoped that they weren't expecting a lord in the fanciest robes in the world. Because that was not him. As he took in the air of the sea and sat down at his seat, he looked down at his clothes a moment. They were a rancher's clothes, a blue tunic that was spun by hand. By his own hand, actually. He'd chosen the tunic that he had spun for himself. Hopefully they wouldn't mind. He understood if he wasn't a sight to see. But what would soon sit on the other side of the table would certainly be one. |
For my people... I need to do this."
