bestiary
Hyrule is a very dangerous place, with plenty of monsters roaming about, ready to strike passerbys on sight at a moments notice. Study up on them, because you never know when you may meet them in your travels!
Players running dungeons or other instances involving boss monsters have some creative freedom in regards to what can be a boss monster, including creating their own creatures. If you are curious if something you have come up with would fit into the site's mythos, feel free to ask staff! We can be flexible.
Aeraflos
Winged reptilian enemies that are usually armed with swords and shields, they almost resemble miniature dragons. Keep a ranged weapon handy, or use a Clawshot to bring it down to earth!
Armos
Armos are creatures that pose as horned statues. When approached, they awaken and pursue whoever activated them. Bombs are the most effective weapon against these creatures. They explode upon death.
Baba Serpent
A Baba subspecies that tends to hang from walls or ceilings. Be wary, as they will clamp their jaws around you and you might not be able to escape! Cutting off their stem will not kill them, and you will need to strike the head as well or it will attack again.
Baby Dodongo
Infant Dodongos, they are far smaller than their adult counterparts. Bright green in color, they do not breathe fire but they do jump quite high and bite. They explode upon death.
Bad Bat
A Bad Bat is a bat-like creature resembling a Keese, but larger in size and a more black color. Other notable differences from Keese include their tendency to be quieter with the flapping of their wings. They are surprisingly strong and flock together in groups. You will generally encounter at least four at a time.
Beamos
Statues shaped like grimacing faces with a rotating eye on top. When something passes through its range of sight, it attacks with an energy beam strong enough to cut through steel. Bombs are effective weapons, as well as its own beam if you can reflect it back on itself. They explode upon death, and occasionally contain treasure within their bodies.
Big Poe
Larger than their regular counterparts, Big Poes do not hide when approached, and they are fast and aggressive. They carry lanterns from which they drop fire to attack. They can be placed in bottles upon defeat. They only appear at night and cannot be hunted during the day.
Big Skulltula
Giant spiders marked by skull-like faces on their backs. Big Skulltulas hang from the ceilings and dodge out of the way of attacks if they can see them. They are vulnerable while still on the ceiling, or when they reveal their underbellies.
Bio Deku Babas
Bio Deku Babas are similar to their cousins, Deku Babas, but instead of growing from the ground, they live underneath floating plants, from which they can be cut. When they are cut off, they start to crawl around on the bottom of the water they live in.
Blue Tektite
Spider-like creatures that can float on top of the water and jump great heights and distances. They don't do much damage, but they are hard to hit and several at once can be quite an annoyance.
Bokoblin
A smaller, leaner version of the moblin. These primitive creatures often live and fight in groups. They are capable of adapting to most weaponry, and have learned to breed and train Kargaroc as mounts.
Bomskit
Bomskits will run around and attempt to explode in your vicinity. Cutting them down allows one to use them as makeshift bombs.
Bubble
Living Skulls with bat-like wings, Bubbles will fly at you and attempt to bite. Be careful, they can imbue themselves with the elements of fire or ice before attacking!
Bulbin
Cousins of the Bokoblins and Moblins, Bulbins will use clubs, or bows. They use Bulbos as steeds, and are usually led by a larger Bulbin. These larger Bulbins generally use heavy weapons and hit hard, typically carrying a war horn with them to summon their friends.
Bullbo
Large, bull-like creatures just bigger than a horse. They are traditionally bred as mounts for Bulbin. They are very tough and hardheaded, and can be used to smash through wooden barricades or walls that are too strong for bombs.
Chillfos
Chillfos carry large, spear-like icicles that they use as two-handed weapons against whoever intrudes upon wherever they may be guarding. They also are known for throwing them as javelins. Luckily, being made of ice they are rather fragile.
Chu
Also known as Chuchus, they appear as bottom-heavy blobs of transparent jelly in either red, green, yellow, or blue, with a large, grinning mouth full of crooked teeth and round eyes on stalks. They move around normally by slowly oozing along the ground and by bouncing. Their ooze can be used to treat wounds, but it tastes nasty.
Corrupted Deku Scrub
Not all Deku are sociable. Stories are told of Deku who became wild, and hide in patches of fauna in order to attack travelers with no reason given. Some say they have been corrupted by some sort of dark influence. Others say they were sighted coming in and out of the Forest Temple. Could long-term exposure to the Mirror of Twilight be responsible?
Darknut
The Darknut resembles a large knight, equipped with heavy armor and a large sword, and a wide shield. Darknuts are notoriously difficult to defeat, and are considered some of the most powerful monsters in the world. Their origins are a mystery. Some say that they are Hylians serving monsters, an idea supported when one manages to shake off their armor with enough hard swings in order to take advantage of the exposed weak spots...
Deku Baba
Small, vicious plants that lunge out when approached. They do not do much damage, but they are quick and have a tendency to spring up out of nowhere. They have Deku Seeds and Deku Nuts in their heads.
Dinolfos
The stronger and faster cousin of the Lizalfos. Dinolfos are more armored and can endure more damage than Lizalfos, as well as hitting harder and moving faster. Their claws and teeth are as dangerous as their swords.
Dodongo
Large, armored, fire-breathing lizards. Dodongos move very quickly when attacked, but freeze when in the process of breathing fire. Their tails and mouths are the only unguarded parts of their bodies. They will bite when unable to breathe fire.
Drake
A sub-species of the Dragons that are a fair bit more common. Almost identical to the Dragons, from their variety of body shapes to their flight capabilities and ability to utilize an elemental breath. They are far smaller though, just a bit bigger than the largest of horses horse, and are far less dangerous than their larger counterparts. They are not to be underestimated though, and can easily fry an entire party.
Dragon
Massive lizard-like monsters with almost impenetrable scales, impressive flight capabilities, and elemental breaths. These monsters are one of the rarest breeds in Hyrule, and many people have gone entire lifetimes without ever seeing one. They are one of the most dangerous creatures in Hyrule and beyond, and it is not encouraged to engage one. If you see one, run. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, and you will be hard-pressed to find one that looks the same. If you are forced into a conflict with one, ensure you have brought a full party with you or you will likely not stand a chance. Even then, its elemental breath and physical dangers can very easily take down an entire party.
Fire Keese
Flaming bats that swoop down on their enemies. They will set fire to a foe on contact, but their own fire disappears, leaving them as a normal Keese. They are quite fast.
Floormaster
Giant disembodied hands, dark purple in color, Floormasters glow bright green before they charge at their enemies. They are invincible when glowing. When attacked enough, they split into three smaller hands that behave in the same manner. If a smaller hand grabs a victim, it will drain its magic to return to its normal size quickly. The three small hands will eventually re-join into a normal sized Floormaster.
Helmasaur
Helmasaurs will charge intruders on sight. Their iron masks protect them from most direct attacks to the face, however, but they can be removed via various means. Their backsides are also left exposed as a weak spot...
Ice Keese
Bats surrounded by clouds of freezing white mist. They freeze anything that they touch and dive-bomb their foes. They typically move in groups.
Iron Knuckle
Ax-wielding warriors in layers of heavy armor. They are quite difficult to harm while their armor remains, but they are slow. When they take enough damage, they lose a layer of their armor; this makes them more vulnerable, but also much faster. They are vulnerable to explosives.
Kargaroc
Aviary creatures that come in different forms, the Kargarok are strong enough to pluck a man off his horse and carry them through the air. Some monsters such as Bokoblins use them as flying mounts.
Keese
Black bats that swoop down to attack their foes from ceilings and shadows. They don't do much damage, but they're hard to hit.
Lizalfos
Huge man-lizards bearing armor that attack with swords. They attack by jumping and heavy overhead attacks, and they typically are found in groups. Their skin is vulnerable where they are not protected by armor.
Like Like
Tube-like creatures that are always hungry. They will swallow anything and the interiors of their mouths are extremely sticky, making them hard to get away from. They will consume weapons and clothing. If they are not defeated quickly enough, the items will be digested completely.
Moblin
Hulking humanoid creatures with claws, tusks, and pig noses. They are almost always seen carrying weapons like clubs and spears and are a war-like race of monsters. They are easily outsmarted, however. If you fight them directly, bring help!
Moosh
Blue bear-like creatures with small wings that can allow them to glide through the air for short distances. They are rare creatures said to be found deep in Faron Woods. They are typically docile, but can be ferocious if provoked.
Octorock
Octopus-like creatures that hide underwater, popping up to shoot rocks from their mouths at opponents. They are invulnerable when underwater. The best technique is to bounce their attacks back at them. They wither after a single hit.
Poe
Small ghost-like monsters that carry lanterns, which they attack with, and disappear if a foe gets too close while looking directly at them. They can be kept in bottles upon defeat. Some people are able to refine them for drinking, but the effects are random. They only appear at night.
ReDead
Reanimated corpses. They are quite slow, but they are very strong despite appearances. They have an unearthly shriek that will paralyze anyone who hears it for a few seconds, and their grips are very hard to break. They are vulnerable to sunlight.
Skulltula
Spiders with skull markings on their backs. They are perfectly docile when left alone, but agitated if someone climbs up the wall they are resting on. When agitated, they will charge whoever is near them hard enough to knock them back down to the ground. They don't move much beyond that.
Stalchild
Those who have long past have a way of returning. Some believe that Poes and Stalchildren are nothing but monsters, others believe they are those who have died. In any case, they are quite hostile, and usually guarding something.
Stalfos
These nasty creatures can prove difficult to dispatch. They carry a sword, shield, and wear armor, which makes them downright hard to actually land a hit on. Keep it up and you'll be able to do it. They only appear at night. Running away is advised if you do see one.
Stalhound
Easy to dispatch on their own, but these bone canines are a menace in a pack. You might even find them flanking Stalchildren. On rare occasions, they may flank and back up their true master, the Stalfos.
Wallmaster
Giant, disembodied hands, purplish in color and similar in appearance to the Floormasters. They will drop from the ceiling without warning. If they grab anything, they will carry it off somewhere else. It is almost impossible to break a Wallmaster's grip. They are vulnerable for a few seconds after landing if they do not grab anything.
Wolfos
Wolf-like creatures that typically attack solo or in pairs. They circle their opponents and swipe with their claws, and they shield themselves using the thick fur on their backs. Their underbellies are the only unprotected part of their bodies. Their Ice equivalents can also be found commonly in the Peak province.
