 | The battle in Zora's Domain had taken Josh out for action for a little bit. Combined with catching the flu from falling in the frozen waters after being grazed by a cannonball, Josh's injuries needed to heal and his injuries needed to recover. But sooner or later, he had been allowed to fight again. He had begun training again and practicing to get the rust out of his system long before his time off had elapsed. He had of course done a great deal to spend most of that time off with his wife-to-be, but Josh was hell bent on getting back to his job, and being 100% when he did. He'd been back on the roster for a few months now, even if he was still irritable about missing time. But he was still thinking quite a bit about that last battle... It had been one of the biggest, most intense battles of his life. He'd fought a great many monsters, a great many demons... But never an army like that. And apparently the culprit was of the Twili? He didn't understand any of it... Either way, he had been assigned onto a patrol with another soldier. He was having a hard time pronouncing his name himself, but he would get it. The reason they had been placed on this particular patrol though, was the Captain's new faith in their capabilities. They had shown that during the last battle. Him and the other guy... Kamo, he'd call him Kamo, seemed capable enough of potentially dealing with the beasie that apparently lie in the lake. Josh's shift started later than Kamo's, of course. He had a farm to tend to before he could set out. Accommodating for that was something that Leon El Hyrule had promised upon recruiting him. If he hadn't, he didn't think he'd ever have accepted. He couldn't just up and leave the work to Maude by herself. That wouldn't be right. He did not leave for his shift, until the work was done at home. The farm was tended to, the crops were watered, the animals were fed and tended to and brought out to pasture. He always did his best to make sure that the last thing he did was bring them out to pasture before leaving, and always get home in time to herd the animals back into the barn around suppertime. He did not always make it home in time, but usually that was due to him being called out for an extracurricular mission outside of the usual work. Maude wasn't always happy about that, but she seemed to have understood that when you were asked to do something important, by say, the leader of a tribe or a nation... It was best in the long run to help them. Of course when that did happen, he usually got either permission, or recommendation from the outside party for permission, to his superiors for him to have the next day to stay at home if he was stuck out late. The work he did for them was harsh, but they were fair. And Leon had promised to make this work with his farm life. While Maude was upset at first about his decision to take this job, and for good reason, Leon had helped him make sure that he didn't upset her further. Besides, he knew that if he did, Josh probably wouldn't stay. He was loyal to Hyrule, yes... But his family was number one. He would join Kamo before too long for the patrol, and nodded toward him when he arrived. "Morning."  OOC: Tags: |

| If a break hadn't been required, he would not have taken one. But the King had insisted, the Knight Captain had insisted, and most importantly his family had insisted. So he was kind of in a bind at that point. He was injured, he was not well. He was sick, he was not well. He was unable to fight to the best of his abilities and that made him useless on the field. So he took the time off to heal his body and cure his ailments. It was a pain, being stuck bedridden for some time while he was sick. It was a pain too, to not be able to move to the degree he should be able to, for some time. But he worked hard to speed up the body's healing processes when it came to his injuries. He was back to training before long and it didn't take long for his muscles to feel the way they did before, to make every swing of his sword feel just as natural as it had in the battle. He was a determined man on a warpath - and nothing would stop him. "Ready" He spoke as he would stride past him, looking out at the lake. "You've heard the rumours about a monster terrorizing people astride the lake, yes?" It seemed he was ready to get right to business. OOC: Tags: @kamo |

| "Fair enough, looks like we'll do some fish hunting together than, if it comes to it" He would remark, before stopping to look at Kamo as he suddenly realized what he'd said. He had just said "fish hunting"... To a fish. "... Monster kind of fish, you... You know what I mean." He was clearly trying to be polite and not offend the man. It didn't matter to him what race he was, he was a soldier and a co-worker. But he did try not to offend, and knew he had to be wary of what other races might find offensive. He recalled Nex despising being referred to as a "fish", though also got pissy when he noted an intention to go "fishing". It could also be that the Zora King was just incredibly bipolar, but he couldn't confirm that. He'd heard a few stories of this "Kamo" though, a lone wolf fish of a soldier who had often wrestled the other soldiers in the barracks. Josh was a man who didn't visit the barracks much, he didn't talk to them often and usually kept to himself. They were a bit too... Serious and stiff for his tastes. So these were merely stories he heard in passing as he walked. When Kamo would ask his ability to swim, he would look back at him. "Good enough" He would respond as they walked down the road. His swimming abilities were nothing to brag about, but they would get him out of a situation unless his aggressor was something far quicker in the water. "About as good as one would expect a Hylian to be. Nothing to write home about." He figured he was asking for the sake of strategy. The Zora didn't appear to be one for small talk. OOC: Tags: @kamo |

| His eyes widened then as the fish would completely surprise him with his remarks about the Zora being cannibals. "Wait... You guys eat fish? Geez, by how that Nex guy got all offended, I thought they would get offended at anyone who actually ate fish" He would admit, quirking his brow. Well, that certainly hadn't been the answer he had been expecting. No-sir-ee boy. But either way, he didn't seem troubled about the whole thing, so that was good. He would shrug that off soon after. It wasn't a problem, so that was fine. As the two would walk down the path toward the lake, he would nod his head as the fish would point out that - yeah - to just call out if he needs help in the water. "Right, I will" He would remark. The Zora would then ask about why he had joined the military, and it took him a moment but he seemed to find the words. "The festival" He would respond as he looked back at him. "When the monsters attacked. My fiance was seriously injured. I had given up the warrior's life to be a farmer with her, but it made me realize that I'm not going to be able to live a peaceful life while these attacks continue the way they are. If I'm to settle down, raise a family and be able to have some peace of mind... I gotta be willing to help make it happen. You?" OOC: Tags: @kamo |

| "Not much to tell. Monsters got through the barrier, laid waste to the town. Fire everywhere, a lot of people were massacred, and someone decided to take the chance to barge into the castle and put a dagger in the King's back" He would remark in turn, shaking his head. "On a personal level... A Moblin struck down my wife and stomped on her leg. I've never been so horrified by a scream in my life" He would admit, his eyes taking a darker tint to them as he spoke of it with a grave expression. "All I remember is this sense of unyielding rage, before drawing the sword that I only kept with me for sentimental purposes at the time. I don't remember the rest." He didn't want pity either, only tried to be informative in giving his reason for fighting. He nodded his head slowly when the Zora would admit his tribe had been slaughtered. "I apologize" He spoke softly. "I lost a great deal of people a long time ago that could be considered my equivalent to a tribe. So I get it, I do. You don't need to hide the emotion or feelings stemming from that, from me. The least I can offer is understanding." OOC: Tags: @kamo |

| Something told him that hadn't been the right answer. He stopped talking as soon as he realized it. He didn't speak, from there. Only gave the Zora a look of apology before continuing on. He knew he had spoken too much, in too much detail, and had given the wrong answer. It happened. He hoped the Zora would forgive him for it enough to make sure the mission went smoothly. Unfortunately, Josh was just never great at small talk. He usually spoke his mind, or talked business, that was where he was a bit better at. Sadly he'd gone into detail a tad too much without realizing it until it was too late. That would teach him to open up to someone he supposed. Once they reached the guard station, he would find himself just staring out at the water for what seemed like forever. He couldn't stop thinking about what had been said about giant monsters being in these waters... He wanted to be ready. It was almost like he was in a trance, how focused his expression seemed to be. He had hardly moved in what seemed like an eternity after that. OOC: Tags: @kamo |
