Eleyna had been on the trail of a monster for at least a week now. It had been terrorizing the denizens of Kakariko village, which simply wouldn't do, for multiple reasons. One of which was because, obviously, that was her home. But the thing was wily. She wasn't even entirely sure what it was, only that it apparently had a taste for sheep and was missing a toe on its back left foot. Which was a weird thing, come to think of it. How did a monster come to be missing just one particular digit on one foot? Had it been bitten off? Caught in a small trap? Was it simply a deformity? She had too many questions, and not enough answers. Thankfully her tracking skills were pretty good, and with distinctive footprints like that, she was able to follow it without too much difficulty.
Except for one problem. Either the thing could fly, or it was just damn sneaky. Because every time she thought for sure she'd managed to catch up with the thing, the tracks disappeared into thin air. Now was one of those times. She'd been following the footsteps away from the village, deeper into the wilds of the Eldin province, and she thought for sure she could hear it snuffling up ahead of her. She definitely heard the tread of heavy footsteps. It couldn't be much further now. She drew her sword from its sheath on her hip, preparing to vault over the next rise and attack it, and sped up accordingly. Just a few more meters, she had it now..!
"YAH!"
She swung her blade overhead as she leaped over the ridge of ground, only to see.. absolutely nothing in front of her. Blinking rapidly in sheer astonishment, she landed lightly on her feet, her head swinging around to see where the thing could have possibly gotten to. Unfortunately for her, this distraction meant that when she stood, she stumbled over her own two feet and very nearly ended up landing face-first in the dirt.
"Oh come on!"
Throwing her hands up in the air and nearly slicing off her long ponytail with the blade in her left hand in the process, Eleyna huffed and thrust the sword back into its sheath before planting her hands on her hips. This was simply ridiculous! Where in the name of Hylia had the damn thing gone?!
