Josh was no stranger to the hunter-gatherer lifestyle; while he didn't do much hunting himself, he knew how to take care of himself if he needed to. His Shinx, Blitz, was near the cusp of how large the species could get. The leathers Josh wore around his Galaxy Expedition uniform made Josh stand out as more of a member of the Security Corps than the Survey Corps he was officially signed on to. As much as he wanted to do survey work, particularly because this was the Obsidian Fieldlands full of many of the Pokémon Josh ultimately wanted to study, that was not his job.

His job was to keep Professor Fifi safe. There was an important survey she was on, and even the Pokémon close to the campground were quite dangerous. The electric-type's presence would make wild Pokémon think twice about attacking her or Josh, but some species were just looking for a fight. The Pokémon of Hisui were also far more aggressive than the ones by the Two Towers. He would rather be in Hisui than the warscape of his homeland, though. "When you're ready, Professor, we leave camp," the Johtonian said as his Shinx scampered around her feet.
