Oasis Fort, Gerudo Desert
Jo,
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!!!
You passed through Gerudo Desert in a tour of duty and you did not even think to visit me?? Even though my Fort is just a small turn to the left?? Cold, Jo. Cold. Whenever I think about all that Ordonian Jerky that you always bring that I would have got had you deigned to visit my humble abode... I am filled with tears and eternal longing. Truly, my friend, you have shattered my heart. And now it can never see the light of the sun again....
Jokes aside, I know that was more of a drill than a tour of duty so it's alright. Damn man. General ***** is something else, isn't he? Boy am I glad General XXXXX is not a fan of military drills. Can you still feel your legs, man? I sure hope they gave you and your Lieutenants at least a day off after that!
We are fine in our Fort. You may have heard that they say the desert has become quite dangerous lately, but that's bogus. Monsters attacks wax and wane here for as long as we have remembered. At least that is what my friend Chief Manuzim said. Remember him? The one who treated us to that "incredible" "stuff" the other day? Oh his daughter says hello to you. Just a "hello", I assure you. And I am obliged to deliver. Heh heh.
Sav'so. A good catch I say. Seriously, Jo. Must be that nobility aura or something.
Aaanyway. Ready or not I am heading to Castle Town come spring, and you better get my Jerky ready! I heard Her Highness Princess Beatrix will have her fourth birthday celebrated and that always means free foods and other good stuffs! So I am bringing the kids there. Some of our Gerudo lads hail from the deepest recesses of the desert and have never laid their eyes to the Castle itself! I sure hope they will find Castle Town in festive mood a fun excursion to have.
Oh, right you really should meet one of the boys, Theo. Young but already built like an ox and a hundred times as capable in combat! He has heart, that one. I tell you, Jo. He will be a great man one day.
So, see you in spring!
Sav'orq,
-----
The Jerky Lover
PS: As to Bulblin Camp. Yes, there has been a slight increase of activity lately. But it is not like there will be a sudden horde of monsters coming out of there taking us all by surprise, you know (*) We have them watched at all times.
(*) That was exactly how the opening phase of Great Disturbance and the reveal of The Beast would be like, in the very near future.
Suddenly, the door to the room opened. A tanned, well muscled arm held the door open, but the owner himself had yet to set foot inside. Instead, he seemed to be talking on the threshold while keeping the door open. In later years, some would note this as one of the quirks of General Redwing, one of the legendary heroes of Hyrule.
It seemed he was talking to a woman.
"...and about lodgings, Commander. We-"
"Naaah I'll pay it out of my own pocket," he waved his hand, "I brought those kids with me. So please treat them as my guest, alright? They are the sons and daughters of our staunch allies!"
"Very well," the woman conceded, "I assume that you'll cover for their meals too?"
"Of course! Eh, but not tomorrow, I guess. Tomorrow I'll take them out to see the city and we'll be dining out! Sa'oten! I pray the Princess' Feast Day will not be too crowded...."
"All accounted for then, Commander. Thank you for your time."
"Wait, Sylvia-"
"Hm?"
The owner of the arm tilted his head. "Did you change your haircut since the last time I visited here?"
"O-oh.... Well, yes, Commander. Just had it cut two days ago in fact-"
"It suits you," the man grinned, "You look much more... professional. Elegant. Charming. Well, you have always been charming before Sylvia, but -really. I think the real you truly shines now. Sav'so!"
From the woman's voice, it sounded like she was a little embarrassed.
"W-well, it is nice to be noticed sometimes I guess.... I have to finish the paperwork, Commander Redwing. I shall take my leave."
"Don't drown yourself in those papers, Lieutenant!" the man cheerily waved, "Let me know if I can be of any help!"
The woman's voice echoed from across the hallway. "It would be so much more helpful if you had sent us who you were planning to bring beforehand!"
Chuckling, the owner of the arm swung the door open and finally walked in person into the room.
And in came a tall, muscled, dashingly handsome man in his prime years, with tanned olive skin and a natural air of exoticism pouring out from a sculpted, perfectly built physique straight out of the heroes storybooks. His well-proportioned muscles were firm and obviously well-trained, visible even underneath the soldier armor he wore. His hair was black, with red-tip on the end, ruffled and a little messy as if constantly swept by the desert wind which only added to his rugged charm.
Underneath his bangs (which was how Princess Marianne's hair would look like were she ever cut her hair short) his silver eyes shone brightly, seeing things with mixture of child-like wonder and age-old wisdom. Unlike his future daughter's eyes, which looked deep and bottomless as if an old soul was staring out of them, this man's eyes were seemingly always at the edge of smiling or laughing, all part of his charming persona.
His jaw was perfectly angled. His lips firm and true. And there was something in the way his face looked which suggested both danger and safety. He was a Hylian, for sure. A warm, loving Hylian. One who would force himself to stay awake just to be able to welcome his loved one home and made them hot chocolate and wrapped them in warm blanket with a loving kiss near the fireplace. He was home and hearth; bed and domestic safety.
Yet, somehow, there were also clear Gerudo features on him which whispered of exciting adventures and thrilling excursions. Of wild dances under the desert sun and passionate kisses under the full moon. He was of forbidden things and delicious things; Of exploration of senses known and unknown. He was a tiger and a stag, a solitary prince of the hunt which no woman could ever hope to win his heart. He was someone whom everyone would notice whenever he walked into a room, and someone whom alluring presence would linger long after he left. A man of the men. A brother of brothers. Really one of his kind.
"Sav'aaq!" the man greeted cheerfully, scanning the room with his warm, friendly eyes, "Is Commander Johannes here -oh!"
Quickly, and into a perfect position, he saluted at the Knight Captain.
"Sir Barrett! It is an honor to meet you here!" His grin showed his perfect rows of white teeth. "I hope I have not interrupted an important meeting, Sir."
Polite and sincere, this man was really easy to like. He turned his gaze towards the other knight in the room, and blinked.
"And you are Dame Ursula, aren't you?" With long, gallant stride he walked across the room and bowed politely to the lady. There was nothing show-offish or attention-seeking in his behaviour at all. This was an honest man who wore his heart on his sleeve. "May I say, congratulations on your Knighting Ceremony, madam! I have heard many things about your prowess and beauty, though I must say, it seems not all of them are true."
His eyes glinted.
"For one, you surely are far more stunning in the flesh than the stories made you out to be. I am truly in luck."
He offered another polite smile, but then hes suddenly slapped his forehead as if he had seemed to have forgotten something.
"Sa'oten! Where are my manners! I apologize, Sir, Madam." He straightened her back, and his bulging chest muscles were even more visible. "The name be -----, though everyone simply calls me Commander Redwing from the name of the company I lead. I am here to see Commander Johannes, but I did not realize he will be having guests. Varqso. My wrong."
