Everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
What was originally planned to be a two or three days stay, in Goron City, had stretched to almost a week.
They arrived in Goron City just as the sun was setting, and The Queen immediately went for a private meeting with The Goron Chief, returning to her room very late at night still in her travelling clothes. She woke up early the next day and filled her next days with discussions and meetings and surveys and more meetings. Surveying the battlements, holding talks with the delegates from Kakariko Village who had arrived, lobbying with the guilds representatives and other high-ranking Goron persons, The Queen really showed why such a visit was necessary. Problems which had stalled for weeks were solved in a single day. Everyone left the queen's presence with better understandings of the threat they were facing, the kingdom's plan, and the role they would play in it.
But such effort required sacrifice. Even her horse seemed to have much better rest than the queen, who always left her room very early and returned very late -sometimes not at all. Her Royal Guards faithfully stood guard wherever she was, while Desmond had been free to do what he wanted in the City. Marianne had not specifically asked for his presence, though the few times they met each other she was as cordial as always. She was not avoiding him. She was simply busy.
Then, the news from the west came. Each more dire than the last. The increased frequency of attacks from the desert, where The Twilight Curtain filled the sky. The rumors of new kinds of monsters. The reports that some Twilight Agents were even acting openly. A few representatives from the Desert arrived three days ago, and from their visit Marianne grew even more restless, conducting more surveys and meetings with more and more people. Just yesterday The Queen and her entourage rode to an outpost just in Lower Eldin to check on things, before returning to Goron City on the same day. A hasty journey full of urgency.
And now Marianne had time to reflect.
It was late at night. Very late. The battlement of Goron City walls stood magnificently around the mountain, hanging like a proud protector of the treasured mountain. From here one could see unobstructed to the west, through Lower Eldin and the mines, over the dense woods of Faron, dark and indistinct in the night, and finally to the shadowy sky over the Desert, even blacker than the night.
The Twilight Curtain.
Marianne stood alone, still as a statue, only accompanied by a brazier burning serenely near her, her gaze was fixed to the Twilit Sky. A gentle night wind blew from the ravines below, swirling her ever-trusty red cloak softly as if they were exchanging pleasant greetings. The chill of the night was evident, even if the Death Mountain temperature tempered it somewhat.
A long, drawn-out sigh.... The Queen of Hyrule lowered her face....
