"As for the ranch where my sister currently resides, it is a little farther up past the Village Hall. Go straight until you find the Old Stone Well at the outskirts of the village and turn left. You will find 'Dragelion Ranch' at the end of the road." (link)
It was a pleasant and sunny winter's morning. All the inhabitants of this sleepy village were up and about. While, perhaps the streets were not quite as lively as they could be in the warmer months, the town was still clearly quite alive and doing well. Some people could simply stay home and relax near their cozy fire, but many others still had work to do, places to go, and people to see, even in these winter months.
And of course, Braedynne was one of them. But she wasn't a citizen of this little village, no.. she was a visitor. She walked along the sides of the roads, following the directions she had been given the night before. She passed by perhaps half a dozen people or so, nodding, smiling, or waving a bit as she went. They didn't seem to pay her much notice, unless they happened to catch a glimpse of the fairy that closely accompanied her. Otherwise, she may have just looked like a child walking along, with some purpose to her steps. You couldn't really tell much else about her, given that her cloak was long and wide with the hood drawn up. And it wasn't even out of the ordinary either, given the cool weather.
And so Braedynne continued plodding along, just about leaving the village. She turned left when she got to a well. And then there was a bit of a lengthy road to follow. The road was lined with fence to keep grazing livestock inside the fields, though at this time the weather was too cold for grass to be growing or animals to be out here for no reason. The crops were all harvested already. It was far, far to early to be planting anything. The place almost seemed deserted. Though Braedynne knew this probably wasn't the case. Soon she came to a simple archway over the road which said "Dragelion Ranch". Perfect, so this was the place...
But now what?
Braedynne stood there, under the archway, and peered around. Hmm. A house, a barn, a silo.. A simple wagon was sitting out in front of the house, but no horse was hitched to it, and nothing else appeared the be in it either. Hm.
Well, this was it, then. Should she actually go through with it? Braedynne considered just turning around. But deep down, she just had to know the truth. Even if she had to bend the rules or even break that promise. The promise which she didn't, technically, even make...
She took a breath and continued pressing onward. Just another minute, and she'd be on the front steps of their porch. They might not even be looking out the windows at this moment to see her coming .. assuming anyone was home to begin with. From the distance, she'd look just like any other child, bundled up against the cold: brown pants under a forest green skirt. Green tunic under a beige cardigan. All of it within a brown cloak. Up close, her green hair would be all but impossible to hide. But at least for the moment, Edelweiss had taken some refuge within the folds of her cloak.
Finally, the small figure stepped onto the porch. It groaned with a slight creak. Only slightly deterred, Braedynne crept forward. She raised her hand up, and knocked on the door.
I hope this doesn't get too awkward!
