In the very very back of Vlad's brain, he felt amusement at Phoebe flying into the air like him, and for the safety of one of their valuable fighters, as Vlad fell back to the earth, he'd watch as she crashed into the large freezard. The issue was is as he landed ever so gently, light as a feather thanks to magic, the leader had merged himself into the massive block of ice.[break][break]

Good news, could be melted, they had fire. Bad news, the front was getting overwhelmed by a blizzard, and Vlad was underweight. He had to buckle down and place a hand on the ground. His fingers, thankfully found a rock to grip onto and helped take some strain off of grasping at nothing. He could try what he had earlier with the other blizzards, but it wouldn't be half as effective.[break][break]

Still, possibly zoning some of it off was better than doing nothing. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work, at best, it might help add some push back and let them focus their fire better. With his free hand, Vlad took a shivering breath and aimed his palm against the wind, firing a constant pressure of winds against the blizzard, eyes glowing green and teeth grit as he both held on and tried to keep his focus up.

As Phoebe struck the Freezard, the rock covering fell away, and she plopped into the bunched-up snow below in a slight daze.

Yet, there was no time to waste! The sounds of cultists had swiftly roused her awareness, and she found herself at the foot of the giant Freezard, directly possessed by the cultist's leader.

Just then, Phoebe's ears flickered as Josh's orders echoed through the battlefield. With the cultist members closing in, there was little left to the imagination of what to do next. The girl leaped out of her spot with a small blast of fire and closed in on the flank. Stone gauntlets formed on her arms, and she accelerated forth as she clocked a cultist hard on the side of the skull.

Phoebe continued her assault in this manner and darted down the outer flank, landing calculated blows to incapacitate each and every cultist she could see with loud, satisfying crunches of rock, bone, and flesh.

"For my Kingdom...

With Vlad doing his best to keep the blizzard at bay, this gave Josh’s fire attacks some leeway to shoot straight through and hit the big guy directly. Phoebe meanwhile had become like a force of nature, crushing the cultists like they were small pebbles beneath her feet. They were no match for her overwhelming heat and aggressive tenacity, and with them gone, Josh was able to do his job as the freezard melted before him. The cultist would exit the freezard in hopes of attacking him and stopping his assault, but Josh stopped the assault only a moment, just as they leaped down to stab a blade into his head…

BAM!

At the last moment, his fist collided full force, empowered by Din magic, with the cultists’ chest. They were sent flying and sprawling backwards. With its commander out of commission, the giant freezard seemed to have enough as it slid down the mountain for its own good. “Stay down” Josh told the leader of the cultists. “And leave the villagers alone. Kidnapping them to feed them to a monster isn’t going to save your own skins forever” he lectured them sternly as he looked to the others. Once they had recuperated enough to move on, they would soon find themselves at the summit. It was, for the most part, a clear summit. The skies opened up before them. And there would be nothing but jagged rocks below if they fell.

But something that would likely catch the attention of most was the assortment of glittering things in the only assortment of rocks that stood between them and their doom on any side of the mountaintop. And that was what was inside the cave near to where they had just come out of. An entire trove of treasures and sparky things lay within! Enough to fund the most ambitious of expeditions, buy land, undertake almost any venture one could want!

But there was also the creature perched atop the rocks overlooking the cave.

Oh right, Vorva Dunga. A massive, black drake that was far larger than any recorded drake in recorded history. It could be easy to mistake for a full-blooded dragon if not for the smaller and narrower horns and still being a fair bit smaller than the real thing. But it was still quite large, and judging by it loosing a bloodcurdling roar in their direction, it was probably not happy about their presence.

The stream of black flames being blown their way probably cemented that impression.

For my people... I need to do this."

Vlad let his winds go, rubbing at the palms of his hands as Josh lectured the cultists. Doubtful they'd listen to him. Cultists did as they pleased but... a part of Vlad wondered what this dragon had done to earn such admiration. Was it akin to the Twinmold cult of his homeland? Did they worship the beast for it's known power in history? Or did they worship it in an attempt to gain some of it's power for their own.[break][break]

Not really his problem, but a curious magical question none-the-less. Letting out a low hum, he squinted his eyes against the clear sky, immediately focusing them on the shadow on the rocks. So that was a dragon. He muttered something in Terminian under his breath about the creature being fascinating.[break][break]

Even as the dragon breathed fire in their direction and he hopped out of the way, shoulders loose and arms by his side, he stared up at it. It'd be a shame they were probably expected to kill such a powerful and rare creature as such. Dragons were rumored to have remarkable capabilities when it came to magic. The stories he grew up with always caught his ear, and this dragon was catching his eye. "I'd rather not fight-to-kill you, but I supposed I'm not going to be given an option in this matter." He spoke in a flat tone, watching and waiting.

Phoebe brushed down her skirt as she stuck her tongue out at the battered cultists, laying all over the ground. "Hah! Cheers, lads! Picked a bad group to kerfuffle with!"

She kicked snow in one guy's face and followed after Josh.

As they reached the den of the--

"DRAGON!" Phoebe shrieked with her arms raised in midair, "A real live, bonafide dragon! I'm not dreaming, am I?!" Even as the black fumes began to fall toward them, the lass had taken her Pictobox out and furiously took footage of its existence. "This is amazing! This is WONDERFUL! They actually exist! THEY EXIST!" Tears began to fall from her eyes from the delight in her heart. She leaped up into the air with fire bursting from her boots, dodging over the sweep of dire flames that spread beneath her.

Yet, she unleashed no attacks, not with her busying herself with capturing footage of a sought-after monster!

"Go boys, go!" she cheered, "Give it a gobful!"

“Pheebers dear, I appreciate the enthusiasm. But I really don’t think fawning over the dragon is the best thing for our survival. Can we fangirl when it’s not trying to kill us?” came the helpful suggestion from the Knight as he placed a hand on her shoulder when she landed. But oh no, it was worse than he had thought. She had no intention of fighting it. No, she was gonna let them do it.

“I miss Selene” muttered the Hylian with an exasperated sigh as he drew his sword and darted behind cover. “This thing at least looks smaller than the ones I’ve seen in the books. I don’t think this is a full blown dragon!” he called towards Vladimir and Perci as Buddy soon joined him, panting from the heat. He scratched the pup’s head to soothe them as he tried to think of a strategy. “So good chance we might survive. I hope.”

Didn’t mean it was going to be a cakewalk, though. While he didn’t want to kill anything if he could help it, this thing was apparently eating the villagers. Which is probably why some started worshipping it, as nuts as they were. Fear could do weird things to people. Either way, he doubted it would spare them at all, and they had sworn to drive it out or kill it, if they were going to get their boat fixed.

The roar from the thing echoed through the area, and it soon took to the skies. It would launch a series of large fireballs at Josh, Vladimir and Perci, before spewing another large gob of fire at Phoebe who wasn’t moving enough. Changing tactics, Josh sheathed his blade and knocked an arrow into his bow. He pointed it a ways away from the creature.

“Say when” he told the hound, who waited a few moments before barking. This thing was big, but it was still like a bird. And Buddy knew how to help hunt birds. With the right timing, Josh was able to fire, but the arrow would bounce off the drake’s hide like nothing.

“Great.”

For my people... I need to do this."

"Ph... Pheebers?!"

That was the oddest nickname the girl had ever heard; in fact, she wasn't about to let her elders at the council hear that.

As she slung away her Pictobox, Phoebe ran and dove out of the way of the enormous fireball the dragon had spat in her direction. The shockwave of the explosion pushed her some distance away, yet she would catch herself with a roll.

"Wow!" she cheered, "The power of that! These beasts are nothing to snuff at!"

The girl made a raking motion across the ground to conjure six sharpened stones into existence, then, with a calculated purpose, homed all of the rocks toward the eyes of the dragon. "Sir Dragelion! Do you have any bomb arrows?" she inquired, "Concussive blasts to the chest and lower belly can cause internal damage, armor or not!"

When had their group for taking on a dragon gotten so damn small?! Vladimir squinted at the form of the beast and let out a huff, it'd likely have to happen. Looking to Phoebe, Vladimir had an idea. "How good are you with fire?" It was a last ditch attempt. Back home in Ikana, a friend of his, they used to integrate their magic into each others. Flaming tornadoes and pressurized bursts.[break][break]

With the right balance, they could create a backdraft. A near starved fire, intense and with the right maneuvers from Vlad, they could make it hotter. For now though, Vladimir took on a crouched stance, wondering just how useful he could be against a dragon's scales.[break][break]

The best he could do was improvise, and for now, he'd stay on the ground. Around his arms, Vladimir wrapped winds around his arms, and with a frustrated shout, a partial cry of exertion, he launched blades of air straight for the dragon's face, particularly it's open mouth and eyes.[break][break]

Of course the force from the blast also caused the light weight air mage to bounce back a few steps, catching himself way back behind the group.

"For my Kingdom...

The answer was simple. First Selene had been taken out by one of the ice bois earlier and had to return to the village. And now just as Perci gained the courage to strike at the beast, a fireball hit point blank and sent the smoking roast bird careening back towards the direction of the village. Leaving them three people and an oversized dog who could probably pose as people sized on his hind legs.

Not really in the mood to focus on Pheeb’s reaction to her ridiculous nickname on account of the lizard presently trying to kill them, Josh only heard her question about whether he had bomb arrows. “Never heard of them, but…” he trailed off as he decided to improvise. Instead of an arrow, he placed a bomb from his pouch onto the strings. It was a long shot, but a long shot would have to do!

“When” he commanded the hound again. The rocks in the eyes stunned the drake for a moment, but with its regeneration abilities it wouldn’t be long. Vlad soon shot blades that hit its face, dealing some damage to the weaker armor points and sending it scuttling back a bit.

“Woof!”

With the signal, Josh adjusted the height to accom for the bomb’s weight and let it fly. Aiming for the chest as Phoebe instructed paid off as the chink in the beast’s armor was breached. The drake would be sent careening back before unleashing a gutteral screech in rage that shot across the entire island.

Clearly, they had made it mad.

Vorva Dunga flew up further before charging up power and launching a massive barrage of fireballs into the air. These fireballs gained speed and velocity as they came down, becoming meteor-like as they careened down upon the party. The ground below impact if hit would be destroyed, giving the party less room to maneuver.

Vlad let out a huff as he dug his heels into the ground, watching as the dragon started a barrage of fireballs. Yeah he wouldn't have it. "Never mind that fire thing" Vladimir groused out. He'd be unable to properly pull the stunt off, so he had to scratch that off the list. Sprinting forward, in a few steps he'd have himself lightened up and jumping up above the group, pulling the mighty winds near this peak to his advantage.[break][break]

All he had to do was focus, back up in the air, light as a feather it felt like as he looked up at the fireballs raining down. He'd worry about how to tell his therapist how his lacking of fear of death caused him to throw himself and his magic between a group and a dragon's enraged fireballs. Vlad's focus was doing what full blooded mages did best, focused hard on pulling the gusting winds into a swirling vortex between himself and the fireballs raining down on the group.[break][break]

The attacks the lads had made had created a weakness in the dragon's flesh. However, as a retort, Vorva Dunga would send down fireballs of massive size upon them.

While Vladimir told her to forget about his question, she merely grinned, then blasted off the ground toward the vortex he had created. Like it did on the beach below, her hair burst into fire as the burning flames started to absorb into her body, causing her to glow with extraordinary radiance.

"Ouch! This is a bit too hot!"

Even so, the newfound energy that coursed through her caused her flight speed to increase dramatically, and she careened toward Vorva Dunga at an ever-increasing velocity. A pair of stone gauntlets grew on Phoebe's arms, and she held them upward and fused them into a spike.

Thus, she became a fiery projectile, trained and aimed directly at the dragon's wounded chest.

"For my Kingdom...

Josh had weaved and dove, while Buddy had found cover in a small opening that would be harder to breach, making the most of its smaller size. Luckily for them, Vladimir had managed to stop most of the fireballs through pulling them into a swirling wind vortex which would cause them to fly off course and shoot off into the distance. Some had crashed down upon them, but much of the damage had been prevented thanks to Vlad. That was when Phoebe turned herself into a hylian bullet, striking the drake’s chest. It would loose a roar as it would topple downwards, hitting the ground.

“THIS IS IT!” Josh cried out as he quickly shifted to Dragelix and charged forwards. He would leap into the air, launching a series of fireballs downwards that would shoot him further up. He had managed to catch the drake’s wounded chest on the way down, and once it was stunned, he would let himself fall. Dragelix took fire as he channeled the strength of his magic into the blade until he plunged it down upon its chest…

All was still.

Perhaps it was regretful they had to slay such a creature. But it had become a necessity. But as the monster breathed its throes, a black, pixelated vortex would appear behind the slain beast. Eyes widening, Josh would quickly jump back just as the drake’s form would collapse into pieces, before being sucked into the vortex before that too, disappeared without a trace.

He didn’t know what had happened, but… It was over, right? He didn’t sheathe Dragelix just yet, first making sure Buddy was safe before slowly making his way into the cave. Lighting a makeshift torch with magic, he would find the cave to be deeper than he had thought…

His eyes widened at the sight. Gold, jewels, chests and piles full of the stuff! They had found treasure after all! But while that was a victory in of itself, something else caught his attention. Nestled under a small pile of treasure peeked out what seemed to be the remains of a poorly kept nest. Shuffling away what was in the way for a moment, he would soon call to Phoebe and Vladimir.

Eggs covered in a scale-like mesh. All in different shapes and colors, indicating they didn’t all belong to one drake. It seems Vorva Dunga was keeping them as spare food. While surely everyone would be taking a share of the treasure to bring home, Josh couldn’t help but be drawn to the nest. If they didn’t take them, there would be nobody to teach these ones to fly off the summit. Not that the drake they’d killed cared, it was going to eat them anyway. Perhaps it was an impulse, but he took one of the three eggs and stuffed it into his pack.

For my people... I need to do this."

Vladimir landed, ever so light on his feet and watched with a blank expression as the dragon was drawn away into a strange portal. His mind though, was moving as fast as ever, trying to figure out just what that was. Either way he stayed silent, took a breath with the wind to still his mind and felt his legs shaking some. He was used to pushing out massive amounts of magic at once, but the amount of spells he had done so close together while climbing this mountain combined with the adrenaline he feels when flying into the air like he does took it's toll.[break][break]

He would stand there where they had fought the dragon, looking down at the ground and listening to the wind move around them until Josh called out for them. He had gone into the cave, and he had been down there for quite a bit, but his ears still picked up on an echo.[break][break]

So he went on down into the cave, eyes scanning the room filled with treasure before returning to Josh, seeing a neglected nest of eggs laying on the ground. "Nest parasite." Vlad muttered, kneeling down by the nest, he reached out and placed a hand against an egg that had a pattern that looked somehow familiar to him.[break][break]

He couldn't quite place how, but that didn't matter. "Still alive, that's a wonder." Would he really take a baby drake under his own magic based wings and raise it? ... yeah why the fuck wouldn't he? He had a baboon that had followed him home, a cat that appeared out of nowhere and has spent his entire life handling ghosts and ghouls of different shapes, sizes and forms.[break][break]

Gently, he lifted the colorful egg up, placing it into his satchel. He'd worry about why the pattern seemed familiar later.

Well, that's that.

After unceremoniously falling from the sky following her attack, Phoebe would eventually pull herself together and witness the end of the dragon, as well as the unusual means as to which it was swept away.

... Where'd that come from?

Nevertheless, considering that Vorva Dunga held such influence on the island's peoples, she wondered what the aftermath of their actions would take. There was no mere reconciliation for the cult members that worshipped the dragon, and now that it was no longer a threat, what would they be reduced to?

Sure, they had killed the dragon to free the inhabitants of its tyranny, but who's to say that another wouldn't try to take its place? With the way it had disappeared, it feels as though this monster was sent here on purpose.

Phoebe looked around the dragon's nest and furrowed her brows hard.

We'll need to set up a communication line with these people... there's no telling if another dragon would seek to roost here. The islanders are in no shape to defend against another dragon.

However, if another one does come, then the opportunity to study a live specimen would be a boon to the research committee. Vorva Dunga wouldn't be the last dragon she'd ever see, after all.

All will happen in its time.

Then, the knight called her and Vladimir to a cavernous hollow, for within it was a massive horde of treasure! The sheer volume of it left her jaw agape, yet the thought came to mind. The villagers could use a portion of these resources to rebuild their town and open up a tradeline with Hyrule itself! There was no harm in continuing communication with them, if they were fine with it, of course.

If they were splitting the treasure, she'd definitely give half of her bounty to the villagers and share more of it with Selene and Perci. They wouldn't be going empty-handed with their injuries, after all.

Lastly, by some stroke of good fortune, there were three large eggs of no particular similarity to each other, possibly stolen from other similarly large creatures and stored for the coming winter.

"What manner of eggs are these?!" she exclaimed as she took a dozen pictures from different angles. "Poor things! I do hope we're not too late!" The girl lifted the last unclaimed egg into her arms and covered the shell in a gentle warmth.

Phoebe glanced back in the direction of the cave entrance and let out a huff.

"What a criminal dragon! Stealing another creature's brood for food! Good riddance!"
