True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
| "I'm not sure if I'm shy about the fact I'm getting married" He would admit, chuckling lightly. "I think I'm just... Happy, you know? She just... I don't know how to describe it. When I'm around her, I can't keep the smile off my face. When I think about her, I feel happy. When I hold her in my arms, I just feel this sense of joy that I can't describe in words. She's just... Wonderful, you know?"
He would scratch his head.
"She's doing me an honor in marrying her, she doesn't realize that. I've tried so many times to sum up to her how I feel, truly, from the bottom of my heart, but whatever I say... I don't think it'll ever be enough. I'm truly blessed... And truly fortunate."
He smirked a bit. "She has no idea just how much."
Looking back at Solveig, he nodded his head.
"You're my Sworn Brother, I'd want you at the wedding. I'm not intending to make it a massive thing, Maude and I, we're both pretty rural people, it'll likely be a bit small. But I still want you to be there" He would admit, smiling lightly.
"Besides... Family should always be invited, right? It's customary to invite family to one's wedding.
And..."
He looked out at the desert that was still quite a ways away... And he found himself frowning, just a little, at the thought he had when compiled with what he was about to say.
"My Sworn Brother is the only family I have."

Solveig couldn't find words to say, instead, he just walked in a solemn silence, Josh's last sentence hanging over his head like a cloud of pyroclastic flow raining down the mountain side. Heavy with ash, rocks and heat. He felt like he didn't have anything proper to tell the boy to try and wipe that solemn look off of his face.
He moved along silently, eyes resting on the horizon covered in sand, narrowing a little in thought. Finally, all he could muster up were a few words, not as boisterous as usual, but there was a smile on his tone. "You'll always have us Goron, brother." He gave him a firm thump on the shoulder with a broad hand, continuing his trail to the desert.

True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
| He couldn't help but smile at that response. It warmed his heart, somehow... Back in Clock Town, he never felt like he'd really found a family. The local guards, the townsfolk, there were just so many out for themselves, so many who didn't have a care for others all that much, just their own interests. He didn't really keep in touch with many of them... Most of them, he'd more or less stopped mailing. They never mailed him, why bother, right? As soon as he was no longer of use to them, they just stopped contacting him. It was simple as that.
But Solveig and his tribe were different. They were family, in a sense... Sworn Brothers. For once, he felt like he belonged. And it made him smile as he bowed his head slightly as they walked.
"... Thank you."
---------
The desert was hot, scorching even... He didn't know how they'd managed to get here, and he didn't know how long it'd taken, but they were here. Wiping a bit of sweat from his brow, he took an opening swig of his canteen before turning to look over at Solveig.
"Wherever you intend to go, lead on, Brother."

Solveig was glad he could perk the kid up some, but he needed to focus now. They were in the desert, and while yes, he had an amazing sense of direction, he needed to focus. Luckily, the sun was beginning to set. The heat was still powerful, beating down on them like a frying pan pulled fresh from the oven, but there were stars in the sky.
He looked about, found the north star and the one constellation he needed. He pointed in the direction between them and thumped Josh in the shoulder. "We start in that direction until we find the giant stones that we are looking for. There will be a cave nearby." He continued moving forward, leading the way for Josh. It was nearing twilight, the strange hour were some nocturnal creatures became active, and the others were moving towards their nests. If they were lucky, they could avoid too much trouble.

| He was thankful to Solveig, he really was, for him going out of his way to cheer him up like that. Josh didn't have many people that did that, actually, the Hylian could admit... I mean, why would they? Most "Friends" he had only were there when they wanted something... Sure, there were exceptions. Like one Rinley Abernathy (mojo), who gained nothing from going out of her way to try and help him, since even if she did, she knew he wouldn't trust her enough to keep an eye away while she robbed the house or anything. That and he had the dog there and all that...
They were lucky, it was that sunset time, where the sun wasn't as hot, and the chilling night hadn't bore upon them yet. This was the ideal time for them to travel through the desert, but that meant they would have to be quick, and very quick at that, if they were wanting to get through the desert as quickly as possible and make sure that they were able to get back in time too. This window was a very small one... He just hoped that whatever Solveig was looking for, it wasn't too far into the desert...
He would nod then, as he would follow behind Solveig after hearing his instructions. It sounded like it wasn't all that far... Good, maybe Maude wouldn't kill him after all depending on when he got home and all that.

Solveig's grip on his hammer tightened as he moved through the desert, coming up to the rock formation, he spotted some trouble along the way, moving to step slightly in front of Josh in case they- oh look.
There were a small group of 2 dinolfos, and they weren't too happy about the intrusion. Solveig had mentally called that they may try to breath fire at them as soon as they spotted them, and was honestly surprised that he even got that right. Usually when he tried to call something... the opposite happened. He braced his self against the flames, protecting the Hylian's smaller form from the barrage of fire.
Huffing through his nose, he shifted his hammer on his shoulder, not turning to speak, but keeping his eyes on the monsters. "Are you ready for this brother?" He waited until the human behind him was ready before moving his self out of the way as a shield to lash out at one of the monsters. There wasn't much time though, they were hopping around and making quite a bit of noise at the intruders.

Well, Josh supposed it was inevitable before the monsters started showing up. A light smirk crossed his lips as they came into view, and Josh would draw his bow, wanting to try and get a shot at them from afar before the battle began. Their hides might not be great for arrows, though, he would admit... But a shot to the eye would at least halfway blind one of them. A severe sudden impairment to vision would likely be too much for that particular Dinolfos, which reminded him of the Lizalfos but more like a prehistoric equivalent...
But before Josh could put his plan into action, they would suddenly strike, breathing fire. Solveig would shield him with his body before Josh could brace himself for impact, and Josh would nod toward Solveig in thanks in return.
Josh would nod again when Solveig would ask if he was ready and would string and ready his bow... The moment that Solveig would move out of the way, Josh would quickly take aim and aim at one of their eyes...

Solveig grinned and thumped his chest, stepping to the side, making sure Josh would be out of the way of his swing, and readied his self. Both of the monster's started a charge, and Solveig's charged right into the swing of his hammer. A satisfying "CRACK" resounded from the creature, sending it flailing to the side, it's noises a mix of pain and rage.
The monster got back up, confused now on what to do. It's flames didn't seem to make this strange rock flinch, and it's hammer was scary. It whimpered in pain, and tried to move to flank the goron, only to get a rock between the eyes, sending it over the edge of the dune, unconscious. Little desert monsters like this were never much trouble to begin with.
Turning, he looked to see if Josh needed any help.

| Using Solveig as cover, Josh's aim seemed to be true as anything. He had aimed and fired the first shot, and that had nicked one of them in the eye, shorting out it's left eye and seriously impairing it's vision. Josh knew that from there, the fight would be much easier, and he would fire another shot just as the Goron would leave his side to handle the other one. Josh meanwhile, would drag Dragelix and go after the one that he had partly blinded.
Josh would wait for it to attack first, knowing that the loss of sight in it's left eye would allow for him to much more easily dodge. Moving sideways when it swung, Josh would clench the handle of his sword with both hands and with a cry, bring it into the back of it's neck. With a heavy, strong and sharp blade like Josh's, the force of it amplified by the Hylian's physical strength would cause the sharp blade to cut through the back of the neck of even a Dinalfos, and it's head would fly clean off in the process.
Taking a breath and looking around for a moment to see if the coast was clear once Solveig was done, Josh would keep his guard up... There always bloody seemed to be more.

Solveig rubbed along his neck and jaw, laughing as the Dinalfos fell dead, shrugging his shoulders. "We are almost at the cave, brother! Solveig thinks this was just a small hunting party." He announced his suspicions, continuing to push forward, keeping his eyes and ears open. He continued pushing through the sands, which was incredibly difficult, considering the massive weight of the Goron, but he managed. Solveig's large form pushed through the sands and for one last time, he simply slid down the side of the dune, coming to a rest at the bottom, where if yo looked very closely, you could see the mouth of the cave hidden among the sands.
"There's the cave, brother!" He grinned, proud that they found it. Now the problem was that with powerful magics.. came booby traps and dangers. This would certainly be a hell of a gauntlet to get through, he felt. He looked back at the Hylian, moving over to the cave mouth to look inside, feeling the cool air come rushing out. This was definitely a good sized cave.

True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
| "Whew..." He would mutter as he would wipe the sweat from his brow. The heat of the desert mixed with the fires of combat meant that he was going to get rather hot throughout this. He was going to have to be careful, he knew, if they were going to do anymore fighting out there. The Hylian would take a long sip from his canteen, wanting to re-hydrate his body as well as try to replenish his strength after he had used a decent amount to kill the monster... Moreso then he would normally due to the heat.
Coming to a dune, the duo would make their way down. Following Solveig's example, Josh would let out a breath and plop down, using his body weight to slide down the dune quickly in order to save some time and energy. Not to mention the slightly more childish and immature side within him found it fun... And he couldn't held the light grin that crossed his lips as he slid down.
Solveig would indicate where the cave mouth was, just hidden beneath the sands. "You're sure this is where the rumor you heard claimed it would be?" He would inquire with a curious glint in his eye as he would peek into the cave, taking a moment to enjoy the cool air after being out in the desert for so long...

Solveig sniffed the air of the cave and stepped into it, motioning for Josh to follow. "Even if it is not correct cave, it will provide protection from the sun and heat for you, brother." He also looked about and focused a little bit harder. "And with the air, it has another exit, and this cave feels damp, it may have a water source." He stated his observations out loud for the Hylian behind him as they walked through the cave.
It was hard to see, even for Solveig, but it wasn't too dreadfully dark yet, they hadn't gone that far in yet, and the angle of the light was still enough to provide them with some manner of looking about. He looked back at the Hylian to see what he had to say about it before going any further into the caverns.
Josh Dragelion Where there's water in a desert, there will be signs of monsters. Solveig knows this, and where there's monsters, alot of times there be tinder and torches. |

True happiness only comes once in a lifetime
| "Hmm, fair point. I just hope I don't end up slowing you down... Was the last thing I had intended" He would admit, silently cursing the weaknesses of his race compared to that of the Goron who was leading this expedition. Weaknesses were a frustrating thing to have... Especially when no amount of hard work could overcome them. That was something that Josh hated... Limitations he could not break, even if he pushed his body to them and past them. He would never be able to overcome that limitation and it would make him a liability to Solveig in situations like this.
That sincerely pissed him off.
But there was naught he could do about it... Hylians were all-arounders. They had weaknesses but also had strengths all-around too. He would listen as Solveig would continue to go on about the cave having another exit, maybe even a water source. "Hopefully this is the one at least... The sooner we get out of the desert, the better. And the less I have to explain to my fiance" He would admit, chuckling lightly, trying to forget the liability that he posed to Solveig in this environment.
"Either way... If you think this is a good place to start, let's go. The sooner the better."

Without too much a word, Solveig nodded, cracked his knuckles and took a step forward. In doing so, he kick a torch against the wall, watching it bounce back to him and catching it. Laughter rumbled in his chest as he looked it over, passing it towards Josh. The human there could use fire, and passing it to him. Josh had started to sound a little down, so Solveig decided to do his best to try and make him feel useful.
"Brother! The only thing that slows Solveig down is sand!" He laughed out, and it was true. Goron were very dense, and despite all of their strengths, tenacity and stamina, they lacked greatly when it came to mobility on loose grounds. Yes, he could roll down the dunes, but there would be no rolling up them, as much as climbing. Solveig would have to find the bottom slope of a dune and walk up to it's crest if he wanted to navigate the desert. Even then, he was kicking around sand as he trudged along, almost knee deep in the gritty substance.
He continued making his way into the cave, stepping carefully, but confidently as the floor felt mighty sturdy to him as they moved along. Solveig simply kept a hand on the wall and followed the feeling of moisture, eventually leading Josh and them to a stream that Solveig, admittedly, almost fell into. The cave was dark, and the water darker, and Solveig didn't have the slightest idea of how deep that water was. Taking a few steps back, he grumbled, almost ashamed "found it".

He nodded in turn, grateful that Solveig didn't consider him a burden. It wasn't even his pride at work here... He sincerely did not want to be a hindrance to Solveig when he had done so much for him already. Taking a deep breath in order to regain his senses, the golden-blonde haired Hylian would take the offered torch, understanding the request as he would quickly light it using a fire spell.
But especially now he didn't want to disappoint. Solveig had offered him nothing but compassion, kindness... And a brotherhood and sense of belonging that he had no felt from any other organization of people. Even most of the people he worked with as a soldier, sure they had families and personalities and minds of their own... But so many of them were just so business minded. He hardly even had a chance to speak to the King anymore, who he'd once considered a good friend. Everyone was so business minded... It was hard to see them as family, even if he wanted to. But Solveig treated him like family... That was something that the Hylian would not forget. Perhaps one day, he would bring Solveig to see his own "family" of sorts... And by that, he meant his ranch and everyone in it. His fiance, Maude... The dog, the pig, and the livestock they had. They were the closest thing to family that Josh had, even if most were... Well, animals and livestock.
Outside of that... This was the closest thing to belonging he had felt. He never felt that sort of belonging amongst the guards of Clock Town either, even when he had become their Captain after years and years of service. It always just felt like a job... A duty. Nothing more. They were not a family... Nothing close.
So for the most part, this feeling was very much unknown to him but he knew it was something he wanted to pay back in kind somehow... To him, that was performing admirably on something that was clearly very important to Solveig. More than admirably... He had to be a use, not just a liability he dragged along just in case he needed what he may have to offer.
The two would continue making their way through the caves as Josh stayed at Solveig's side with the lit torch, trying his best to light the way for them both. The heat of the torch made it harder to breathe as it mixed with the heat of the desert, but at the least the caves were far easier to move in for him then outside.
Thanks to having the torch so close, Josh had been able to stop far quicker than Solveig, and tap the rock-hide siding of the Goron to indicate it was best to stop. Whether Solveig had listened to him or had simply figured it out on his own, he did not know, but that would have been nasty had the Goron fallen into the stream...
When Solveig would say he had found "it", he wasn't sure what he meant.
"It?" He would inquire. "You mean the entrance to what you're seeking? Or the thing you're seeking itself?"
