Was this guy serious?
Sure, it probably caused some pain, but he doubted that it would do much damage. If it weren't for a Goron's physical strength, Josh doubted that with the scales it had, and the toughness and pain tolerance it would have to have in order to survive in molten magma, then it probably would have felt like butterfly kisses from Solveig's rocky mother. Sure, the thing let out a roar in pain, I mean, he did try to pull out pieces of it's skin with Goron strength. But Josh doubted that the body took as much damage as Solveig was hoping.
Okay, now he was mad. Josh rarely got mad. Rarely ever. He didn't tend to yell at people, but in a serious, life threatening situation like this, and this guy who was supposed to be his more-experienced senior, was going to get them both killed!
"Do you NOT have a weapon?!" Josh would yell out toward Solveig, glaring. When he continued to fight the thing bare-handed, and Josh would use the chance to look around the Goron to see if he was indeed unarmed, he realized that this was indeed the truth. And then it set in just how fucked they truly were. This monster was far stronger then anything Josh, or even Solveig by the looks of the fact they were getting their asses handed to them, had ever faced... The reality hit him like a ton of bricks. And maybe they would have had a chance, if Solveig was properly armed. But at this point, he was a glorified distraction... And a liability that Josh had to make sure didn't get killed or he'd risk the wrath of the Gorons for letting their leader die.
"ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!"
"SOLVEIG, YOU DAMN FOOL!"
The monster was advancing on them again, and Josh would shake his head, staring a hole right through the Goron. "I don't give a FUCK how much physical strength you have, Solveig! There are things in this world that physical hands cannot handle, and giant fucking monsters are one of them!"
The monster would rear back, about ready to breathe a jet of fire at them again... They were running out of time, running out of space to run, and worst of all... Running out of options. The fact was... He liked Solveig. He really did. He liked the Goron for his eagerness to partake in battle. He was a warrior, just like him. He stormed into battle without fear. He was a man, a Goron, of complete utter steel. He took on challenges head on, and normally Josh would applaud him for being so ballsy as to challenge this mine without a weapon. He admired the Goron for his leadership, for his ability to do so... He knew just as well as he did how difficult leadership was. He liked the Goron's sense of humor, and felt him a joy to talk to. He respected Solveig, and liked Solveig.
But right now, he was making a mistake Josh would expect to see from a RECRUIT from his days as Guard Captain... Not the damn leader of the Gorons. Pride never should come before your life... Or the lives of others.
"LISTEN!" He would bark. He knew it didn't mean anything now, but if they got out of this... Perhaps doing this now would save Solveig's life one day. "I don't CARE about your PRIDE in your BARE HANDS! You know what I give a fuck about? SURVIVING! Being able to fight a monster with your bare hands is all well and good, earns you some respect with other warriors, I know that personally! But the FACT IS... WE HAVEN'T HARDLY EVEN SCRATCHED THIS THING, EVEN WITH ME WIELDING A WEAPON!
WE! ARE GOING! TO DIE, SOLVEIG! ALL THE PRIDE IN THE WORLD DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING IF WE'RE DEAD!"
No... He couldn't die here. He couldn't... But the more that he yelled, the more he realized the state they were in.
"I want to believe, I WANT TO BELIEVE... That I'm the strongest warrior, the strongest entity in HYRULE! I WANT TO BELIEVE IT, AND I'M SURE YOU WANT TO BELIEVE YOU ARE TOO! We are FIGHTERS, WARRIORS, we have PRIDE! I TRAIN, I FIGHT, TO BE THE STRONGEST, TO PROTECT THIS LAND! TO PROTECT THE ONE I LOVE!
But even I understand when I'm outmatched, and when I need every advantage I can get! I knew not to go into this Mine unarmed, even before we found this thing! Why didn't you?!"
The monster's firey breath would begin to become visible, and in that moment it's scales would emit that same magma-like color again as though to indicate that the water toning it down before had dissipated, as it would finish charging... It was as though it had just finished charging some kind of special attack, a firey breath unlike the ones they had dealt with before...
The finishing blow.
Josh let out a sigh as he would turn back to face the beast.
"Fine..."
He clenched his fists, holding the handle of the sword tightly, as he would stare right into the eyes of the beast as it prepared to finish them off. "If you don't want to live... That's fine. But you can foolishly walk into a battle with the intent of dying without a weapon on another day... I have someone at home waiting for me."
Josh would then call up to the monster.
"BEAST! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE IN MIND... BUT I MADE A PROMISE! AND THERE'S NOT A DAMN THING THAT'S GOING TO MAKE ME BREAK A PROMISE TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!"
He was determined... More determined then anything he'd ever felt in his life, to survive this... To get home, and to pull his beloved @maude into his arms, hug her tight... Know she was there and he wasn't going anywhere.
He made a promise to Maude... He'd come home. He wouldn't leave her. He wanted to marry this woman one day... He couldn't do that if he was in a casket.
And he would never dare leave Maude to die in response to what happened to him, as Nerina stated would happen.
No...
He was going to live on this day.
Josh was finally able to let go of material attachments just for a moment... His determination to go on overloaded that for the moment, and in that moment, the magic would work. Even without Dragelix... A raging fire would ensue from his hand, and work it's way up to the blade... Fire would envelop the blade of the bastard sword, as for the first time, Josh was able to make it's magic work without Dragelix. It was proof, in a way... That Josh was able to be his own man. That this magic... That this power... It wasn't anything linked to his father or his father's sword after all...
It was all Josh.
This was Josh's power... This was Josh's strength... His strength that willed him on, to break his own barriers, whether they be physical, mental or emotional. Sure, Josh needed a weapon... But the weapon was an extension of himself. To get ahead, to survive in this world, mankind created weapons... It was their equalizer. Their way of keeping up with the monsters that were all around them. While Josh needed one... It was with the strength he put into that weapon that showed just who he was, and what he was willing to do... All to fulfill what he had promised...
And to be there to protect the one that he cherished the most.
Instinct willed Josh on as he would brandish the burning blade, charging forward and leaping high, landing on a large boulder nearby that had fallen when the monster had knocked the stalagmites down. He would immediately leap off, the fireball he had been charging in his free hand while he charged forward being launched downward, the velocity and force of it sending Josh flying upwards, and to the monster's head... Josh would clasp both hands on the handle of the Bastard Sword, letting out a war cry, one that could pierce the heavens as he would slash across the monster's face, drawing blood from a weak spot as he would begin slashing rapidly, using every inch of energy he could to swing at it for the remainder of the short time he'd be in the air. Over and over, he slashed at it with blinding speed, every inch of his being being pressed into each attack.
But it was the last one that did the most damage, slicing the creature's eye. The monster would let out a roar in pain as it's eye would shut... It'd looked like it was damaged before, but Josh had seemingly blinded the creature in that eye for real this time.
Well, it certainly resembled Deadeye now.
Josh would look back down at Solveig from there as he began to fall. Sure, Solveig was probably mad at him for what he had said, and would probably yell at him... But the fact was they were fighting for their lives. And while Solveig had no weapons...
"SOLVEIG! THE WATER, NOW! DOUSE IT WHILE IT'S STUNNED! THIS IS OUR CHANCE, IF WE CAN EXPOSE IT'S WEAK SPOTS WHILE IT CAN'T SEE AND ATTACK US ACCURATELY! THIS IS OUR-"
The monster would claw, using it's senses to slash at Josh regardless of it's incredibly limited eyesight, due to the sound of his voice giving it the chance, and would hit. Josh would let out a cry in pain as he would be sent flying again, slamming into the wall. The Hylian would manage to rise up to a crawl, letting out a groan in pain as he held his chest where he'd been slashed... His armor had begun falling apart, likely from the years of use, wear and tear, and blood was pouring from the wound on his chest. His breathing had grown much heavier, both from the heat and from his wounds. He wasn't going to be able to hold out at this rate...
But still, as the creature, enraged at the Hylian for blinding it in it's left eye, would advance upon him, Josh would still rise to his feet, grabbing the bastard sword he'd dropped nearby, and standing tall... He held his injured area with one arm, and the sword with another... His teeth were gritted, and he looked to be in terrible shape. But he still stood tall.
He was still willing to fight with everything he had.
