It was, quite simply, a funeral.
Here in this strange land perpetually encased in twilight, a land of neither light nor darkness, several people had gathered. They all had bluish, pale skin, mostly wrapped in dark robes; some wore rather colorful sash and some sort of headgear. Some of them had reddish eyes, while other sported orange or yellow ones, all with some sort of black markings in their faces or bodies. They all gathered here, in a wide flat area dotted with stone markings as far as the eye could see. Here in this realm, the dead returned to the aether, from shadow back into shadow. But the people did keep little stones here, for remembrance.
One person in particular, seemed to stand out. She was a tall, beautiful woman, with sharp angular face and thin lips and a set of piercing yellow eyes, which now seemed to be drooping in sadness. On her forehead was a gleaming silver tiara, perfectly accentuating the color of her golden hair. She stood alone in front of other people, facing two set of little stones on which were inscribed strange runes.
The other people left, one by one. Some tapping the woman's shoulder or gave her a light kiss on her cheek, seemingly offering words of condolences and encouragement. The woman nodded and smiled in turn, but did not move from her spot. Until in the end she was the only person left within the vast expanse of the sea of silent stones.
Or so it seemed. But the woman was not entirely alone. Another woman covered in crimson cloak stood some distance away from the woman, also unmoving. Unlike the other shadowy people this crimson-cloaked woman had a different sheen to her. As if she was there but not really there.
And she was not the only one.
The crimson woman turned her head towards another person, seemingly surprised.
"And who might you be?"
