Starlight Festival.
A time of celebration and of mourning wrapped into one. For many, it was a reminder of those lost in the tragedy. For some, it was a sign of hope: a chance to look to the expanse of space and know that like the battles they fought - it was temporary, and their lives were not.
Each person took part in their own way - ranging from the dances in the streets to quiet prayers in darkened rooms. Desmond had never been one for parties or the sounds of large crowds, preferring to mourn and celebrate in small groups. But he would participate as a shaky step forward, an attempt at optimism when the darkness of the tragedy and the war nagged at his mind.
Really, he had been grateful that his brother accepted his invitation to hang out for a bit during the event. Although, he wasn’t sure what other ways his kin may choose to celebrate or avoid the event. His guesses of Josh’s activities ranged from relaxing with his totally-platonic roommate to another day at work. Let alone guess what thoughts and actions their sister may be experiencing yet.
Desmond shook off the thoughts. While the invitation had been to create and release lanterns with his brother, he wanted the experience to be at least a little bit enjoyable. A time to still catch up, to check in, and to keep their bond together.
He had found a table free for their lantern creation, out of the way but still in the middle of the action. As he fiddled with the supplies in an attempt to get started, he had watched those who had come to do the same. Names, messages, pictures, and undecorated had been the ones he saw the most - he wondered which he should follow suit with…
Though once again his thoughts were pushed to the side when he noted a familiar figure in the crowd. Desmond stood and offered a wave to catch his brother's attention, signalling the space he had found for them.
“Hey. You made it.”
