Everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
"Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground~"
The Arboretum of Hyrule Castle was a splendid place to be in spring.
It was the time when new leaves grew and new buds peeked shyly from the soil, under which it had laid dormant in the cold months of winter. A soft floral scent wafted in the air, combining beautifully with the fresh smell of new leaves as each welcomed sunlight once again. Amidst the neat rows of herbs and trees an myriad of flowers colourful insects were buzzing, eager to bask in the last light of the day. The sun had started to slid westward.
"Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow~"
The Arboretum was originally a small place where previous royals cultivated plants which they were interested with. Unlike the stately inner courtyard gardens which was made with pleasant walks and beautiful aesthetics in mind, the arboretum had a certain scientific feel to it. Here trees and other kind of plants were planted in criss-crossing patches of land, laid out according to the owner’s own sense of classification. Neat, if not particularly pleasing to the eye.
"Someone warm them from below
Till the rain comes tumblin' down~"
It was King Daphnes’ VI great-grandfather, King Riordan of Hyrule, who first allowed non-royals access to use and cultivate the Arboretum, reasoning that it would be better to use the castle’s resource to advance general knowledge rather than simply a place for the royals to indulge in their hobbies. Since then many professors and sanctioned resources from Royal Academy and others had used to Arboretum for research purposes, examining a particular plant and how to best utilize them. In time the Arboretum grew bigger and bigger, until it now occupied a wide portion of the castle southern area, an eclectic mix of plants growing together. Such strange and interesting combination perhaps could not be found nowhere else in Hyrule.
"Pullin' weeds and pickin' stones
Men are made of dreams and bones~"
While the late King spent quite some time in the Arboretum, it was his Queen who really liked the place. Her daughters, Princess Beatrix and Princess Marianne had also used the Arboretum to grow their own plants. And now that both of them were gone or mostly gone, Marianne had been taking care of their patches, too. Slowly modelling them to match her own.
"Feel the need to grow my own
'Cause the time is close at hand~"
In this pleasant afternoon, The Queen was alone in the Arboretum, tending her patch of flowers. Flowers of all kinds and colours from all around Hyrule were planted in an ordered row, sorted according to their similarities with each other. It was perhaps reflected the Queen’s organizational tendencies that all of the flowers were almost perfect in symmetry; all of them adorned with little plaques with their names. It was a really welcome sight to those interested in floral affairs.
"Rainful rain, sun and rain
Find my way in nature's chain~"
The Queen herself was in her outdoor attire today, ditching her skirt for pants and long boots and her sweaty skin slightly visible from the thin fabric she was wearing as a dress, coloured soft peach. Her hair was put in a braid and securely fastened with a small red ribbon, so as to not fell on her face when she bent down. A small woman in busying herself in a field of flowers, and also the ruler of the realm.
"Tune my body tune my brain
To the music from the land~"
And she seemed to be quite enjoying her time off! With a watering pail in hand she carefully and meticulously watered her flowers, giving them enough water according to their species’ preference, which she seemed to have memorized. On the ring finger of her right hand a golden, ornately carved ring glinted in the sun.
"Mother Earth will make you strong
If you give her love and care~"
The song she was singing had such an exuberant tune that it seemed to complement the flowery vista perfectly. It was a pastoral song and quite widespread. In fact, Desmond might have heard it from his childhood days in Labrynna or from someone in Ordon, singing as they worked the field. It was not something a noble usually sang. But then again, The Queen was different in a lot of aspects. Her voice glided easily throughout the small forest, spirited and enchanting. The voice would guide anyone willing to meet her at this hour.
It had been quite an enjoyable afternoon for her. A rare worry-free time for the ruler of the kingdom.
"Old crow watchin' hungrily
From his perch in yonder tree
In my garden I'm as free
As that feathered thief up there! ~"
A little happiness~
