Everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark
when you tell me that you love me
"Are you lonely?"
...
...
...
...
Marianne was, quite clearly, taken aback. Even though she quickly caught herself from reacting too much as she had usually done, she failed to stop the split-second reaction that occurred after the question. For a moment, her icy control failed her.
'Are you lonely?'
"..."
The win breezed between them, carrying the scent of the wildflowers. A dry leaf fluttered in the air. A young woman with her hand on an old tree, gazing at the flowers. Beside her, a young man which decidedly prevent himself from looking at her eyes.
"You don't have to answer," Desmond continued, "I just...."
"How can I be lonely?"
Glancing at him with a smile, the young woman took a step towards the flowers, careful not to step upon the flowers.
"How can I be lonely?" she repeated. Again, light in tone. "I have my ministers. My servants. My guards keeping me company every minute of the day."
She opened her arms towards the flower field she was walking through.
'You have everything. Some people can only dream of having a fraction of what you take for granted.'
"I have my people. My teachers. People I can trust like you. People whom I know will support me no matter what. People I love like Rularu and Revyn. I even have a cousin like Big Sister Selene...."
She bit her lips. But since her back was facing Desmond as she walked, he would not be able to see it.
'You are a mistake. Do not forget that.'
'You left them to their fate. You have no right to feel sorry for yourself.'
'No. You cannot join our team. We... uh, are full.'
'Look at her. Standing on the wall by her own. Doesn't she want to play with others?'
"Everyone attend to me at my beck and call. Everything I wish for, I can grant myself...."
'You cannot. That is your responsibility alone and you know it.'
'That is what it means to be Royalty.'
'Their lives hang on your decision. So are their sacrifices. You only have yourself to blame.'
"My day is full with activities. Each hour, people are waiting for my presence. I have no shortage of people to talk to...."
'That is the curse and the blessing of the Middle Path. That is the role of an Arbitrator.'
'In the end, yes. You are on your own, Mari.'
"So... how can I...."
'I will prove. That I am not a mistake!'
"...How can I be lonely?"
And she turned around, finally, at Desmond. Her red cloak fluttered as she turned her heels, facing him. The Queen of Hyrule, smiling in the spring sun, with the myriad of blooming flowers as her background and a gentle breeze ruffling her hair.
And yet, dripping down on one of her eyes, was a tear. A single, silvery tear, quietly and unceremoniously making its way down her cheek and to her chin before dropping unnoticed on the ground, not even the smiling face realized that she had shed a tear.
"How can I be lonely?" she repeated in an assured tone. An assurance which was unclear directed at whom.

For the first time ever, Mari's muse is actually scared.
