"For my Kingdom...
So many had been lost since the war had started. And the casualties just kept piling up. They had taken such a big step forward in this war by securing the pieces of the Mirror of Twilight in order to infiltrate the Twilight Realm, find the man responsible for amassing the monster armies, and putting him down. But they had lost as well even in this venture. The Goron Chief had lost his second in command, a beloved Goron named Dormagoro. Ursula von Brandt was reported as missing in action, and while her brother insisted she was still alive, it was implied that her condition was in a state of "just barely" at best. And yet, they had to keep going and fight this war to its end if they wanted to end the suffering of Hyrule’s people. He was already so exhausted. Physically, mentally and emotionally. This entire war had already taken a huge toll on Josh's psyche, but he knew he needed to press on. But after what he and the other party had been through on their expeditions, he had the impression his roomie wasn't going to be much better. He would return to an empty farm with no Selene in sight, which told that the Lakebed expedition hadn't returned yet. While worried, he had done his best to keep his emotions in check and focus on what to do when she returned. There was... A lot they needed to talk about, to be honest. He didn't know where to start. Well, this mark on his hand was a good start he supposed. Marianne had likely informed the Royal Family by now. Whether they would leak it or not, he didn't know. But he was mortified at what this... Thing could mean. The one person he knew would understand more than anybody was Selene. Once, the silver-haired maiden had been chosen by the gods, temporarily granted a portion of their power to protect the place they had come from. Trying to find a life after that purpose had been fulfilled had been a great source of strife for her, he knew. But at the least, it might grant her some understanding of what this might be. Because he didn't know what to do with this thing. But he knew he couldn't just spring it on her the moment she came back. No doubt she would be exhausted, and who knows what kind of hell she had been through. It was the least he could do to help her relax and unwind before he even began all of this. So first he had gone to Kodori Coast. There, he had met a Sheikah who had been in trouble on account of monsters who had come too close to the shores. In the end, she had helped him find what he was looking for. Up next, he had made preparations to hunt when a peculiar Rito had shown up at the ranch, asking for... Fertilizer, of all things. In exchange for it, she accompanied him on a hunt in the woods to rustle up something. It wasn't long after that he had received word the Lakebed expedition had returned, meaning Selene would likely be rushing home. As they had left around the same time, Selene had not seen Josh since before they had left. Had she worried about him, as he had her? Would she barrel home as fast as her horse's legs could carry her? He didn't know the extent of her feelings on that scale. But either way, he hoped to have something waiting for her. So it came to be that when Selene arrived at the ranch, the livestock were grazing. Meaning either he had returned, or the hands he had hired for while they were gone had already brought them out. Notably though, Cabuck wasn't anywhere to be found on the range. At least not unless you were looking very closely. The horse had taken to falling asleep inside of a large pile of hay upon their return. Though also notably was that both Buddy and Pigbert were missing from the field. As Selene approached the homestead though, the smell of food would waft from the window. A lot of food at that. Upon entering the home, Selene would find a big spread of food being placed upon the table. Josh had clearly been busy for at least an hour at this point, maybe two. Amongst the spread was: - a basket full of freshly-picked baked apples - a large bowl of pumpkin soup meant to be taken from and poured into smaller bowls - an assortment of vegetables prepared from the remnants of the last harvest that hadn't been sold - several "boats" of hollowed out bread laced with smoked snowpeak hearty salmon, herbs, ordonian goat cheese and cucco eggs - a big pitcher of milk fresh from Dragelion Ranch cows - and finally, in the center of the table was a fresh deer, roasted to perfection with accuracy that had to have been aided by magic |
For my people... I need to do this."
